Official Review: Telepathy by Vortigern Black

3 out of 4 stars

Telepathy, a work of fiction by Vortigern Black, is the first installment in her Ravencroft Series which follows the trials of the Ravencroft family, a group gifted with paranormal abilities. The patriarch, Bastion Ravencroft, and his six children each have special abilities ranging from reading other’s thoughts or emotions to precognition. Triplets, Kahner, Kalturek, and Kalabernus, are each towering, handsome men whose gifts play an integral part in the story. Drayke, the last Ravencroft brother, and sisters, Synedra and Mackenzie, round out the family.
In Telepathy, the focus of the story is the eldest Ravencroft, Kahner. You are introduced to Kahner, as he experiences a tragic loss in 2000, and then flash forward to 2014, where Kahner is working undercover with the false identity of Agent Toni Starck. You meet Starck as he helps Kalysta Radford, battered wife, gather evidence and escape with her three children from Kobi Radford, a major drug dealer in Laredo, Texas.
Sparks fly from the moment Kalysta and Starck meet. Kalysta, beautiful and smart, knows only that she must escape or her children are in danger. As Starck learns more about this mysterious woman through his telepathic abilities, he realizes that the danger is much greater than she fears, not only from her nefarious husband but also from the growing attraction between them. Starck believes that drastic measures must be taken to protect this family. Assumed identities and appearance changes ensue on a mad dash from state to state. Starck decides to return to his former identity of Kahner Ravencroft and bring Kalysta, now called Sable, to his family home, Ravencroft horse ranch in Colorado. As the prodigal son returns home and life changing events occur, Telepathy, delves deeper into the gifts of the Ravencrofts and Sable’s place in their lives.
Overall, Black does a wonderful job developing her characters and has created a family that I want to know more about. I look forward to reading the other books in the series. Their paranormal abilities make each Ravencroft intriguing and keep the reader guessing as to what will happen next. Bastion is larger than life and fulfills his role as leader of the family with amazing gifts that allow him to interact with his children and with Sable in unexpected ways. I felt for Kahner as he survives tragedy in the beginning of the story and then was riveted through the twists and turns of his journey back home.
I rate Telepathy, by Vortigern Black, 3 out of 4 stars. Black has created a tale of intrigue and romance with a paranormal twist that is sure to please. Some of the names of characters are hard to pronounce, but I did enjoy the alliteration. I would also have liked the story to be longer for the selfish purpose of learning more about this family. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy paranormal romance or romance.

Thank you for your kinds remarks. I haven't yet read the sequels but now that you have mentioned them I, myself, need to finish this series.
