I read the book Blood Hunger by Beck Robertson. This is a fiction book that I would classify as an erotica/romance, with explicit sexual scenes. It has rough, animalistic sex, and some BDSM related material in it so it is definitely for mature audience.
Lola is a vampire who is known as a “man-eater” in her town. She meets this hot cowboy, Dillon, at her favorite nightclub while she is looking to feed. She likes him too much to feed on him and tries to get rid of him so she can feed. They run into each other again and their relationship begins. She wants to tell him that she’s a vampire but she can’t bring herself to because of a painful past experience.
Lola and Dillon get caught in a murder investigation and the remainder of the book talks about their bid to prove their innocence, between their sex scenes, of course. It seems like it would be an adventurous read, but it was not really. Lola learns of Dillon’s big secret in the end, but it wasn’t much of a surprise. It was kind of obvious as you read the story.
I found the relationship between the two main characters to be mostly sexual in nature. The dialogue between the two characters is corny at best and the plot was okay. I thought the author could have added more background into the vampire’s background (everyone’s interpretation of a vampire is different) and also to the back plot. It just seemed a little boring during those parts. I also thought the characters’ interactions in the book were a bit superficial in nature.
I would rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. Although I read the whole book, I would not reread this book again as the story-line was not too interesting. The story-line could have been developed more and the characters could have interacted with each other better. There just does not seem to be too much substance to the book and I felt like parts of the book were forced in order to tie everything in. The sex scenes were a little too crude for my taste. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone who is not into explicit sexual scenes. If you are looking for erotica, this may be more up your alley. This isn’t your typical sweet romance story so if you’re looking for one, you won’t get it here.
