The Story of a Secret Heart is a memoir by Cassi Ellen. In her early twenties, Cassi left her life in the UK and moved to Australia for a man who she thought she would spend the rest of her life with. Guy was intelligent, stable, reliable, and everyone liked him. She had her entire life planned out with him until he unexpectedly breaks her heart. Now in her thirties, Cassi reflects on their terrible break-up and how she rebuilds herself.

She analyzes their failed relationship, and isn’t afraid to confess to her erratic behavior and emotions that took over her life. The more she talked about her past with Guy, the more she realized that there were many subtle signs of their relationship falling apart. So many of us can relate to her terrible breakup and can learn from her advice on how to find the benefits in such a negative experience.

Just when she thought that she would never get over Guy, she is drawn to a man who she would have typically stayed away from. He was irresponsible, hot tempered, and involved with drugs and prostitutes. She knew that he was not good for her, but she was intrigued and wanted to be a part of his crazy lifestyle. She could not resist the temptations, the thrills, and the way these new experiences made her feel. She started to feel confident in how she looked, acted, and dressed. She was completely opposite of who she was when she was with Guy.

Cassi writes 46 chapters of different experiences that had the most impact in her life. She concludes each chapter with a quote, and reflects on how she turned all of these events in her life into a learning experience. Her writing style has a diary feel to it and her story-telling is very well paced. I was drawn in to find out what she would get herself into next. This memoir is entertaining, raw, and inspiring.

I rate this book a 3 out of 4 only because of a few misspelled words. I recommend this book to those who enjoy memoirs and self-help books. Her story is relatable to anyone who can find motivation in one of the quotes that she uses, “life doesn’t always work out the way you think it will, but it always does work out.” She encourages readers to live life to its fullest, in every situation you find yourself in. I look forward to the sequel to find out which route she decides take. Does she continue with her fast-paced life of sex and drugs, or does she use her newfound confidence to build a better life for herself?

This sounds like a great read for women who can relate to another woman's failed romantic conquests and desire to keep moving forward. I can picture many readers enjoying this relatable tale.

Great Review! ?

I think that this is also a great book for men to gain insight into the emotional trauma that they may cause getting into relationships without the dedication to make it work. Great review.

I wouldn't like for anyone to adapt to her new lifestyle with drugs and all. I hope she came through well at the end since she wrote about it. Nice job with the review.

This story is very beautiful. Many individuals especially the youths who are in a certain relationship would come and realize how hard it is to manage a relation so it does not blow up one day. In the case of Cassi Ellen, it is very sad to be with a guys whom you think would be the perfect one. Many of us could relate on this story. Congratulations for giving a great review!
