I do not like that in a critical situation of life and death that such a decision is racially decided. I would love to know how the family goes through with this.

I read the first couple of pages of this book found in a sample copy on Amazon. It is beautifully written, and strong, well-developed characters jump out at you right away. This is a good historical fiction novel about race relations in the 1960s USA. Worth the read, I am sure.

Definitely not my cup of tea, because it sounds too serious and complicated with real social issues to be considered easy reading. To me, romance is something more light than racism and discrimination. Sorry and congrats, anyway!

I’m looking forward to digging into this novel to find out how Trisha and Vanessa fought discrimination and overcome difficulties especially in the hands of the Ku Klux Klan. Discrimination is a very interesting and relevant topic in a story.

I know it must have been a tough situation for Trisha, having to stand up for Vanessa in the face of very difficult situation. Such courage is hardly seen in relationships these days. Congratulations on BOTD.

"Deceptive Calm" by Patricia Skipper is a gripping and thought-provoking novel that explores themes of identity, belonging, and racial tensions in 1968. With its well-developed characters, engaging storyline, and exceptional editing, this book deserves a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. A must-read for anyone who enjoys a great story!

Thank you for your insightful review on "Deceptive Calm" by Patricia Skipper. The gripping narrative explores unexpected alliances, resilience, and the quest for belonging amidst societal prejudices. Trisha's courage and unwavering friendship make her a standout character, while Sis Rosalie adds humor and genuine love to the story. Growing up in the 60's reminds me of the difficult turmoil everyone was going through trying to survive the sign of the times in neighborhoods, cities and government. After reading Amazon's sample and your review, I decided I wanted to read this book but kept having trouble trying to purchase the kindle version of it to put on my shelf. I'm working out details as I write this review. Congratulations to the author for BOTM.

Regarding the treatment of society, this is a really troubling issue. To improve morals, individual identity is essential. Racial discrimination, in my opinion, is a blight on humanity.

The attention-grabbing book "Deceptive Calm" by Skipper transports us to 1960 and demonstrates the barbaric treatment of Black people at that time. Love and relationships, social justice, civil rights, race relations, and other topics were expertly addressed by the author. I'm glad Vanessa, the main character, had a friend named Trisha who was devoted to her and bravely supported her through all of life's ups and downs.

By telling such a moving tale and inspiring people to end such a terrible tradition of discrimination, the author truly deserves praise. The story reminded me of a quote by Martin Luther King, " I look to a day when people will not be judge by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character".the book is truely a Masterpiece.

I just got this book, notified that it was August's BOTM, and I can't wait to read it. Not only does the existing review sound like this is an awesome read, but it sounds like a completely relatable story. This is the type of story that happens today, although not nearly as much as earlier in US history. Hypocrisy exposed? I love it! I cannot wait to read this!

'Official Review: Deceptive Calm' by Patricia Skipper delves into the minute details of the romantic fiction story of the book. It reflects on the characters of the story. The point that this is a story of racial tensions and unexpected alliances in 1968 is worth mentioning in the review. The story focuses on the complexities of race, friendship, and identity, revealing Vanessa's struggle as a black woman who was mistaken for white in society. It was appreciable that the story explores the themes of guilt, resilience, and the quest for belonging!

From a sampling, this seems like an interest story of acceptance and the differences of others. Set in 1968, the story follows two girls of different ethnicities that have to deal with the racial disparity and violence in society. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

The tale of friendship is often a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly, which is why many people refer to themselves as "ride or die." People make sacrifices for their friendships, demonstrating their commitment to the concept of friendship itself. This book explores the story of friendship through various lenses such as race and identity, revealing the struggles of Vanessa, who was mistaken for being white, and her friend who stood by her. I look forward to discovering more dynamics in this book and seeing how the challenges could have been overcome if they had been. Thank you for the suspenseful review, it piqued my interest. Congratulations to the author on BOTD.
