Thank you for your wonderful review. I felt Allison wrote it straight-forward, as things were said to her, as she didn't know any different. I'm sure she deserved so much better, but it's so good she was so resilient. And to think she had to take care of her younger sister too. While very sad, it sounds like a wonderful memoir to read. I'm going to add it to my list of books to read.

Memoirs are my favorite types of books, and I especially love ones that have a Christian background. I am curious about what the author went through and how she came out of it. Thanks for the review!

I am not a big reader of memoirs. It is a tragedy when parents don't show any love to their children for any reason. I remember my own stating she was done with her sentence when I turned 18. It makes you feel devalued to hear it. I believe the Church is instrumental to meeting people who accept you for no reason at all. Nice review.

Allison's life and love story are interesting. She also seemed like been through too much that would make her give up but she didn't. It shows how courageous and strong she is. Thank you for your wonderful review.

A well-scripted account of the author's life and every aspect of this story reflects a woman's struggle against the odds.

A romantic memoir "Ninety-Nine Fire Hoops" by Allison Hong Merrill, which follows a Taiwanese girl who gets blamed for her parent's failed marriage. This one looks like an interesting book read.

A life of tests is also a life of testimonies. I love reading memoirs that culminate in a lesson, or a life that eventually, despite all odds, pans out well. I wish to congratulate the reviewer on this exceptionally well-written review. Your summary of this novel is certainly interesting and convincing. There is no reason not to read a memoir that holds soo many life lessons. I thank the author for putting her life on display and being unashamed to tell her story. My very best wishes to her as she continues to enjoy a life that is now filled with beautiful experiences. A great choice for today's BOTD selection!

Allison's story is heart breaking. Her life as it progressively gets from bad to worse is saddening to read. However, her finding peace and love in Christianity is the silver lining in her life. Thanks for a beautiful review!

"Ninety-Nine Fire Hoops" by Allison Hong Merrill is a memoir with a romantic twist. This book will teach the reader how to respond to life when everything seems to be going bad. The author grew up never knowing what fatherly love or motherly care was all about. Her mother blamed her and her sisters for the failure of her marriage and her father divorced her mom and married another woman that made life a living hell for Allison and her sisters. Allison joined the Church of the Latter-day Saints, seeking a peaceful life. The church members took her in and made her feel at home. She met Cameron, a fellow missionary, who she thought was sent by God. She married Cameron who then made her life a living hell. Cameron brought her to America but then stole all of her possessions. Allison was left with nothing and she was unable to speak English. One needs to read the book to learn if Allison succeeded in America. Very good review.

Allison has been through a lot of things in her life. The book will teach one on how to find one's voice and strength and surge further despite the curve-balls thrower by life. This is a great book loaded with lessons. Congratulations on BOTD.

I am actually thinking about reading this now. It sounds a lot like my life -which I have been attempting to write a book about. I also love that being a Christian is involved as well!

I was touched by what I read from the sample and decided to start reading the whole book. As a Malaysian male of Chinese descent, I can relate to some of the cultural issues raised in the book. Although Taiwan and Malaysia are quite different culturally, there are quite a lot of similarities and I could easily relate to her feelings and emotions that she has expressed so honestly.

I find myself rooting for her as I kept reading - and why not? We are all humans on this journey of life and everyone deserves a chance to love and be loved.
