I love a good period romance, especially with such strong-headed characters, and I think the name-changing was normal at the time because it depended on the level of familiarity of the person who addressed another one. However, I do have a pet peeve for inconsistencies in the plot.

Women who remain resolute in their principles are not common in books. They are usually depicted as emotional and easily let go of their principles when in love, so Fiona Cavendish sounds like one of the great ones. I'll skip this one because romance isn't my cup of tea.

Historical romance is one of my guilty pleasures in a book, and this one seems like it would deliver. The excerpt is setting up a nice storyline for romance as well as some trials and tribulations.
