Re: Billionaire Romances
read them, you might quite like them, i do, just some, you've got to find what you like right? i don't decide if i like or don't like a book until i have read it, front to back. I suggest reading them, if you don't like them, at least you'll know. But if you don't give it a go, you'll always wonder hahammandy38 wrote:Am I that out of the loop? Don't be turned off by the comments here. There are some very interesting ones out there and even if they are not that good, most of them are amusing. I think most people are saying that, as a genre, billionaire romances are over-done and have become trite. I would love to hear your perspective on them if you are reading them for the first time. I wonder if you would see them the same way, or find something new to add to the discussion after reading a few of them with fresh eyes.mmandy38 wrote:Am I that out of the loop? I agree - you've already downloaded them. If you don't like one, hit the delete button. Maybe you'll like the next one. Or maybe not. I really like "Knight" by Kristen Ashley, which I'd say falls into this category. But there's about 15 others that I've deleted after a chapter or two. (Shy, sheltered virgin meets billionaire bad boy, minutes later pleasures herself in public, he catches her & blackmails her into a "relationship" = DELETED)belikesnow wrote:read them, you might quite like them, i do, just some, you've got to find what you like right? i don't decide if i like or don't like a book until i have read it, front to back. I didn't even think to put the In Death series in this category but yeah it sort of is. I love that series though.
I think one of the more surprising books in this grouping would be Abigail Barnette's Boss series.

When I fall in love with an author or a genre sometimes I get stuck and forget that there are so many other options. If you enjoyed Billionaire romance some authors you might also like are Tara West, Kate Perry, and Bella Andre. Fun and simple reads for contemporary lovers like myself!

I have to say I'm with you there. I love a good Billionaire erotic romance for the sheer escapism. All the better if the hero is a hot alpha male, and the heroine is a hot but strong woman who gives as much as the hero chucks at her.

I'm probably going to offend, but my inner literary snob is in hysterics. As a genre...erotica is no where near on par with good literature that has stood the test of time. I have read good romance novels, even a few that were well written (though they are scarce) but torrid sex with your secretary will never be the stuff of great literary significance. There is a difference between titillation and love. I enjoy romance novels, and even billionaire romance novels on occasion, but meeting someone, immediately having sex with them, and then spending 90% of your relationship in bed is not the basis of a healthy relationship or a realistic one. I feel that erotic novels typically tell us that sex and love are interchangable, that because someone is attractive and good at sex then things are all going to work out. They are kinky fairy tales, and great for escapism, but please don't limit yourself to only that. If you need sex to get you to read...read Chaucer, who is possibly the filthiest author I have ever read. Read Ovid or Sappho or D.H. Lawrence...class up your porn a little. Most people will be impressed and you will open your self up to a new experience.jhollan2 wrote:Tianarenee3 wrote:however, it is natural to descend aboiut wondering why the big fuss over the same kinds of books. i dont think anyone should 'broaden their spectrum' of reading if they dont want to. spice romance eroticas are just as good as timely novels from people who have been dead for centuries as long as they both succeed in making the reader think about passion.
Very interesting assessment. There is absolutely nothing wrong with reading these types of romances. There are great authors in every genre; the goal then is to find them. Nevertheless, there are several genres out there; why limit one's experience to a particular one? Because someone else says so? I think not. Freedom of expression is one of the best aspects of being a reader or an author. It allows the mind to go above and beyond the obvious and venture out into the unknown.
There are great literary works that were once considered taboo. Look at them now? They are being appreciated and discussed today to no end. If E.L. James cared what everyone thought or fretted about being judged when she wrote her 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, where would she be today as an author? We need to acquire the ability to broaden our horizons and thus allowing one to not be so judgmental when it comes to literature. Who determines what great literature is anyway?
There are great books on this site alone that have been reviewed or even recommended to me that I probably would not have read otherwise. I like to read all books, all genres, all authors at least once; you may just surprise yourself. Most importantly, try not to judge others so harshly. The great thing about this site is its diversity. I myself have obtained so much.
Just something to think about.....
