The complex themes of race, identity, and friendship during such a tumultuous time make it sound like a powerful and emotional read. Trisha's bravery and Vanessa's struggle with self-acceptance are particularly intriguing.

Deceptive calm is a fascinating name for a novel but what truly surprises me till date is all the racial indifference people have to go through and Vanessa is truly lucky to have a friend like Trisha who Didint think twice on placing her life on the line for her friends sake. Thanks for the review and to the author for showing how racial abuse really affects people both black and white.

Radical prejudice seems to be a hurdle this country can not get over, as we are still struggling to eliminate it from our society to this day. Your review of "Deceptive Calm" by Patricia Skipper has made me fall in love with the characters and I have not yet read the book. Sis Rosalie sounds like she is a force to be reckoned with but has not left her sense of humor behind. And there is Trisha; we should all be so lucky to have a friend like her and be a friend like her. Thank you for sharing your insights.

Vannessa seem to be dealing with a lot. From trying to get affirmation to her ordeal with the KKK, she really needs a break. Thankfully, she has an anti-racists friend to depend on.

Congrats on BOTD!
The issue of prejudice and racial differences is expressed in the work. Black people are viewed with distrust by others, as though their complexion were a symbol of their souls. the thorough explanation of doctors and racial discrimination. The author explains how, on occasion, ethnic disparities take precedence over parents' love for their kids.

I don't understand how parents can worry about race when their child's life is at risk. Racism is illogical and cruel. Thankfully friendship can bridge all obstacles. Thank you for your informative review.

People do not raise voice for certain things even when they feel it's unfair just because they do not want to be 'Odd man out' in a group or community with certain beliefs. Appreciate the author's story telling and characterization of bold characters standing up for justice.

After reading the description of this book I can't say it has much original to offer, but then again, this is the definition of romance as a genre, in my opinion - too ordinary, way too similar to each other. Apologies, but even with additional content of social issues and psychological aspects of self identification, I can't be tempted and will have to pass this one. Still, congrats on BOTD!
