[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Is Love Enough?" by Cabrina Jackson.]

Is Love Enough? by Cabrina Jackson is a romance novel. The story is about Bryson and Savannah, and their quest to overcome all the hurdles that life throws at them. Bryson makes some bad and selfish decisions both in the past and present and is forced to rectify those situations or cause irreparable damage to his family. Savannah’s faith and trust are tested as she needs to come to terms with a harsh dose of reality. This book tackles some of the real issues many people may encounter when they have committed themselves to someone else.

What I liked most about this book was that from the story started I had a clear picture of what was happening. There was no confusion, and the character building was seamless. It is a simple weekend read, with nothing too complicated happening. It did get a little predictable, but that did not take away from the story. There were no unanswered questions and nothing that happened just because it can, which is something that I also liked a lot about the book.

While I am not against religious conversation, for the type of book this is, there was too much of it near the end of the story. Everything seemed to be happening just because of religious belief, which was not subtly mentioned. It was laid on very thick, and it threw me off. It started to feel as if it was a crutch for the ending of the story. It was what I disliked the most about this book, and I almost didn’t want to finish reading it.

There were parts of it that made me roll my eyes at the naiveté and selfishness of some of the characters. I have a strong dislike for people who are unable to acknowledge their part when things go wrong. For every action, there is a reaction, and I was especially very annoyed with Savannah for disregarding that fact. You can’t cause a problem then distance yourself as the source when you don’t like the reaction of the persons surrounding you.

While I do have my issues with this book, it was well edited, and I only noticed two simple formatting issues. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because it doesn't feel like a 4 to me. I would recommend this book to believers of God and persons who are spiritual or Christian, or just those who don’t mind the constant mentions; as I think it would strongly appeal to them. Based on experience however, I know many persons will not appreciate the repeated mentions of a deity and would not recommend it to them.

Glad to hear that the author provided adequate character building, but it is too bad about the sudden addition of the religious component. I also find it annoying when people cannot take responsibility for their contribution to a problem. I think it shows weak character. Thanks for the great review!

This almost sounds like a Christian romance. I do enjoy a good, light read from time to time and this seems to fit the bill. Sometimes even predictable books can satisfy the need for a quick read. Thanks so much.

If an author purposefully writes a character as naive or selfish, as part of the story plot, that I can understand. But what annoys me in a lot of books that I've read is when a character acts in that fashion and the author seems to be completely oblivious to the fact that the fictional person he or she has created is unlikeable. Unfortunately that kind of sounds like the issue in this particular book.

While I also have no problem with religious discussion, I agree with you that the sudden addition of religion towards the conclusion of Is Love Enough? seems like a crutch to wrap up the ending nicely. Not to get too nerdy, but the official term for a plot contrivance like that is called a "deus ex machina," when a sudden twist is inserted into the plot in order to solve the characters' problems when there has been no build-up for it at all.

The mention of religion can be a downturn in a story you have become emersed in. I have read book that change the while atmosphere of the book in one chapter. I am not against religious freedom.

It seems Savannah went through a lot of stuff in her marriage. I'm glad the author has incorporated region to bring hope and to enable the characters surmount hurdles in their life.

Thanks for your thoughts on this one. In a time when so many marriages end, the question posed in the title is valid. I might enjoy this one, and will have to keep it in mind fow a weekend read.
