In Sex, Chicken and Coco Butter, Mac Styles explores the trials and tribulations of having a sexual addiction. Becoming sexually active at a young age catapulted him into a life of dysfunctional relationships and risky behaviors. He describes the plight of wanting to stay faithful to his wife but being unable to due to his addiction. A lot of the book involves Mac recounting his sexual experiences and trying to secure a polyamorous relationship with his wife and another woman.

Sex, Chicken and Coco Butter by Mac Styles is written in the first person and gives readers a glimpse into Mac's chaotic life. It was not at all what I expected; I thought it would be more of a cautionary tale about the dangers of promiscuity. It was nothing more than a play-by-play of Mac's sexual conquests.

On a positive note, I applaud the author for his transparency throughout the book. In the preface, he owns up to his mistakes by writing an apology to those he hurt. Mac Styles shares with readers the good, the bad, and the ugly regarding polygamy. He is also quite candid about how his selfishness negatively affected his wife's mental health.

One thing that I strongly disliked about Sex, Chicken and Coco Butter was the author's blatant lack of respect for women. I had a difficult time getting through the book because it made me so angry; women were objectified, and the author acted as if they were interchangeable.

The author mentioned his kids several times in the book, but he provided no insight into how his alternative lifestyle affected them. At the beginning of the book, he writes, "I knew I wanted kids early on. I think I wanted to be a father, and I felt like I had something to prove, mostly because I didn't know my father." I would have liked to have seen more discussion on how Mac's cheating and lying impacted his relationship with his family.

The book was not professionally edited and had numerous spelling and grammatical errors; even the title was spelled wrong! "Coco" should most definitely be spelled "Cocoa." There were other issues with the format and lack of spacing between words. The preface was riddled with errors; by the end of the first chapter, I had already found over ten mistakes. It was a daunting task making it to the end of the book.

The above inconsistencies forced me to give Sex, Chicken and Coco Butter a rating of 1 out of 4 stars. The book needs extensive editing, and the author would benefit from re-reading it with a critical eye. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy stories about dysfunctional relationships and alternative lifestyles.

I would dissuade young readers and women from picking up Sex, Chicken and Coco Butter as it is highly offensive. The book contains vulgar language and graphic sexual content. I would discourage victims of sexual assault and anyone who is triggered by violence from reading this book.

Seeing the title, I couldn't help but try to think of what that combination might lead to and let me tell you, in my imagination, it was hilarious! Unfortunately, the book definitely does not live up to the potential of its title (misspelled as it might be). It is a forewarning of the errors, in fact, that even the title is not spelled correctly. Thank you for your suffering so that the rest of us need not suffer through this book. I hope you recover swiftly.

Thank you! I also was entertained by the title--just wish I had known it would be riddled with errors! I did laugh a lot; so there's that...

Very nice review. I, too, was drawn in by the amusing title to see what you thought about it. Without reading it (unlikely), I cannot say whether this was addressed or not, but polyamorous relationships are not a band-aid for a sexual addiction. With what you've said about the authors lack of respect for women, this attitude does not surprise me, though. Thanks for your candid insights!

You are so right about it not being a solution. Thanks for your comment!

I would very much be interested in the causes of the addiction as I don't really believe it can be viewed the same way as drug addiction, for example. Nice review.

I love how you frame your review, comprehensively and thoroughly! the book does not sound appealing to me and after reading a million fan-fictions about such relations, I am definitely going to pass!

Despite the author's apology, it sure doesn't seem like the author is sorry from the tone of the book. He just wanted to share his sexual exploits with the world. I will pass, and I'm sorry you had to drudge through this. Thanks.
