Catherine (Cat) Little is a 17-year-old over-achiever with high hopes of becoming a doctor, but that all comes crashing down when one sensual night with a stranger has eternal consequences. The mysterious man, Sadiq Al Fayyad, is none other than a prince from Saudi Arabia. Cat is not impressed by royalty and quickly tries to put the experience behind her, but Sadiq has other plans.

Desperate to get on with her studies, Cat tries to put Sadiq out of her mind. He is an unnecessary distraction, and she vows to forget about him, but it's not going to be easy because she is pregnant. When Sadiq has his men follow her, he learns the truth about the life growing inside her and demands that she marry him. Cat is vehemently opposed to marrying him, but Sadiq will not back down.

She can run, but she can't hide.

Sugar & Spice- Catherine Little's Story by H. R. Irwing is the third and final book in The Little Sister series and follows Catherine Little as she finds herself in over her head. The book is an unconventional love story that is fast-paced and had me quickly turning the pages to find out what would happen next. The author provides a detailed look at power struggles within relationships, lust, and the effects of forced assimilation.

My favorite aspect of the book was the inner conflict that Cat was experiencing. Even though she had a strong urge to sever all ties with Sadiq, she had an even greater urge to be close to him. The book thoroughly conveyed the plight of uncertainty regarding matters of the heart. Love is confusing, and it can often lead to conflicting feelings that are difficult to understand. The author described Cat's predicament by saying, "She loathed it. She loathed him...but she was beginning to suspect...she loved him even more."

Another thing that I loved about the story was the evolution of Sadiq's character. My first impression of him was not favorable; he was arrogant and acted downright vile. Sadiq believed Cat was owed to him, which made my skin crawl. As the story progressed, I possessed a greater understanding of what was beneath his tough exterior. He was dealing with his fears, including rejection and the possibility of being shunned by his family. As a prince, he had a particular reputation to uphold, and his anguish was well-illustrated.

The only thing that irked me about the book was that it was part of a series. The author wasted unnecessary time bringing the readers up to speed, which interfered with the current events. My only wish was that it was omitted from the series and made as a standalone, enabling the author to devote more time to Cat and Sadiq.

Sugar & Spice- Catherine Little's Story was professionally edited, and I only noticed a few small errors which didn't negatively impact my reading experience. The author wrote clearly and coherently, and with that being said, I chose to give the book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars.

This book could be read as a standalone, but I would recommend it to readers who have read the first two installments in The Little Sister series. For those who enjoy books that focus on character development, this book is for you! I would also recommend it to readers who are looking for an unpredictable love story; this one will have you guessing until the end!

On the other hand, I would not recommend the book to readers who are looking for a light, romantic read. The story depicts a couple with a dysfunctional relationship that could be off-putting to some readers. The book contains profanity and some sexual scenes that would not be suitable for younger readers.

After reading your review, I am already liking this series. It seems like Sadiq is driven more by his family's tradition unlike Cat. Thanks for your wonderful review.

This seems like an unconventional romance. As you said the inner conflict that Cat faces seems interesting.

This seems more like a stalker story than a love story, mixed will with an obsession on both sides. I understand that Sadiq was dealing with stressful things in his life. That doesn't excuse his stalkerish, demanding actions and words toward Catharine. I think I'll be avoiding this one. Excellent review, as always!
