The Marilyns: A Series by Katie Graykowski

Post by Lovely_Ink »

The Marilyns series is a trio of books about best friends Betts, Lucky and Charlie. While completely different in looks, background and life experience, like all good friendships, these three compliment one another and help each other through life's most difficult and rewarding situations.

To date I have read the first two books in the series, Place Your Betts and Getting Lucky (which is free for a limited time on Amazon). I'd never read anything by this author but I found her stories to be compelling and well written. While the average person does not lead the type of famous/public lives as these characters, they are often faced with the similar life issues. I liked that the author infused simple things like cooking, cleaning and taking care of family into the character's lives even though they each could have, by right of their wealth and/or station, not handled those responsibilities.

Katie Graykowski is a self-described writer of romantic comedies with a lot of heart (Goodreads) and I totally agreed after reading the first books. The personality that she infuses into each character makes you feel as though you are in the living room with your girlfriends. The real life experiences that each character has to go through and overcome are relatable without being sappy. At the end of the books I was left admiring the strength of the three friends individually and corporately and cheering for their happily ever after.

Book three of the series is Charlie's story. We get a small hint about her character in the first two books but each person is fully developed in their own book. Based on the first two reads I am certain that Charlie will end up being as likeable and memorable as her friends.
