This book is a sort of memoir where the main character, Everton, recalls his love adventures from his teens to his young adult life. In the first chapters, he lives with his grandparents in Balaclava, a small town in Jamaica. The first stories are from high school; Everton spends the 7th and the 8th grade having crushes on several girls and hanging out with his close friends: Liam, Craig, Roman, and Owen. Then, the protagonist is forced to move to the US, but he keeps falling in love and trying to find the right girl.

It is hard to name a positive aspect of The Love Adventure Of A Caribbean Boy. I liked the brief presentation of Jamaica and the specific foods or fruits. I would like to taste breadfruit, for instance. Likewise, I appreciated that his family did everything together and respected traditions. Unfortunately, these details were scarce and concentrated at the beginning of the book.

However, I can mention a lot of negative features. The novel is missing the plot entirely; Everton tells different stories that involve various girls, but there is no main direction. The characters are not developed, and even the main protagonist is not fleshed out. The writing style is basic and dull. The author includes mundane conversations, word for word, for instance: “My mom asked, ‘Are you excited?’ I said, ‘Yes, Mom.’ My mom and aunt made me breakfast.” Also, to my surprise, Kevin Gardner reproduced various plays from the church; these aspects were tiring and irrelevant considering the book's subject.

Furthermore, the author did not provide any valuable lessons. Everton merely complains the girls are mean and don’t give him a chance. Also, in the end, he offers some pieces of advice from his (limited) experience; they seem immature and impractical. The editing is far from professional because I found more than 10 errors that spoiled my reading experience.

Considering all these information presented above, I have to give The Love Adventure Of A Caribbean Boy by Kevin Gardner a rating of 1 out of 4 stars. I don’t recommend the book to anyone because it needs improvement in content and presentation. I struggled to finish the novel, and it disappointed me more and more with each page. The target audience could be young adults (particularly men) interested in finding love and looking for relationship recommendations. The novel abounds in non-borderline profanities, and there are some erotic scenes described in great detail; therefore, a younger audience is unadvised.

Thank you for your honest feedback. Every needed component for a great story is missing or poorly done.

I really enjoyed your review.

Your review is great, thank you. In the 3rd paragraph, I knew this is not the book for me. However, would have loved to read more about Jamaica.

As the genre is romance it is disappointing that there is no thread of romance running through the storyline. Thank you for an insightful and thorough review.

Everton reminds me of my boyhood days. Having crushes while a boy was the purest form of love, don't you think? I would take out time to read his amazing book. Thank you for your awesome review.

I like reading memoires, and I think I'd like this one because it narrates the love ordeals of the main character, Everton. From the review, the book has a poor presentation of content, but I hope it won't dissuade me from reading it. Thanks for your review.

I love the title of the book, it’s what attracted me to it. However, after reading your review and seeing how poorly you think of the book, I’ll just look for another love story that actually has romance. Thanks for your honesty.

Indeed, the title was misleading and also the genre. A memoir would have been more accurate. Thank you for your feedback!
