[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "I made that choice" by Andrew Travis.]
I made that choice by Andrew Travis is a story about friendship, toxic relationships, healthy relationships, and essentially love.
Michael has a successful career, is respected by his peers, and is ambitious about his future, but his love life is in shambles. He finds himself to be lonely and longing for someone to share all the good and bad moments in his life. Out of sheer desperation and loneliness, he develops a crush on a newly hired employee just as he receives a massive promotion. Eric soon lets it be known that the feeling is not mutual. While searching for more information about his new employee, and through sheer luck of booking a location shoot, he reunites with an old flame. They decide to rekindle their friendship back to life. After all, everyone makes mistakes and deserves second chances, do they not?
When it comes to love stories, I am accustomed to a certain amount of drama. Why else would anyone bother to read romantic novels? There are many twists in the narrative that satiated my lust for the flare, but in saying that, I have to admit that the story did tend to drag at times. The writing style was choppy and full of repetition. Near the ending, the pace did pick up again somewhat which served as a redeeming quality.
Regardless of the negative points, the storyline was interesting enough to keep me entertained. The spelling and grammar errors were minimal. I do not recall seeing any profanity and the adult content was marginal.
If you enjoy a book that takes you through the scenes with excessive detail, then this will be an enjoyable read for you. However, if you like a fast pace, then I would recommend you steer clear. I would also not recommend this book to anyone that feels triggered by gay relationships, drinking, drugs, premarital sex, or deceitful partners. In my personal opinion, the content is acceptable for enjoyment by responsible young adults from ages 16 and up.
The negatives about the book were mostly the writing style, and for me, that came down to personal choice and is not necessarily a bad attribute. I did not particularly enjoy the character of Clark and found his emotional depth and actions to be contradictory. Essentially, I think this author is promising and I look forward to seeing his growth in future publications. I am very happy to award the novel 3 out of 4 stars.
