Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband by Melissa Mayhue

I have always loved Scotland, and when I found Mayhue’s Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband I couldn’t help but read it. I was pleasantly surprised by how well rounded and relatable the characters are. Caitlyn is an unusual heroine, who isn’t as sure of herself as most female leads. I found this refreshing, as many female leads can be overly confident, and can take most of the book to warm up to. I really connected to Caitlyn’s struggle to make her life a certain way. Caitlyn’s anger toward a cheating fiancé, and her realization that he was never the one, is also very relatable. Connor is the typical romance novel hero, handsome, slightly arrogant, and pushy, but I fell for him anyways, because of his sincere concern for his sister. Mayhue was able to keep the story a page turning romance, with just enough of a physical relationship between Connor and Caitlyn. With an unexpected ending, time travel, and fairy magic, I found this to be the perfect rainy day book.
Summary:
Caitlyn just found her fiancé with another woman! Returning home, she puts on an antique pendant, and suddenly Connor, a highland warrior from the thirteenth century, appears. He tells her, to save his sister she must travel back to his time and marry him for thirty nights. Once the thirty nights are up, and his sister is safe, he will return Caitlyn home.
Nothing goes as planned, when the wedding is delayed, Caitlyn becomes stuck in thirteenth century Scotland, someone’s trying to kill her, and she finds herself falling in love.
