Review of The Curve

The Curve, by Carolyn Reece, is the first of three books on Christiana "Chris" Rite Marshall's life. She is a mature lady who owns her own business and loves refurbishing antiques. She is also a widow who has the opportunity to rediscover love when two great lovers from her past resurface. Regrettably, she also has a proclivity for attracting the wrong men. Throughout the novel, we get to follow Chris on her romantic escapades. The book also has a lot of intrigue going on, and we, as readers, are pulled along for the ride.
The narrative of a mature woman in her 50s rediscovering love again appealed to me. Many people believe that once you reach a certain age, love is no longer in your future. Chris is shown as a strong, self-assured lady who is eager to love once more. Despite the fact that her late spouse had emotionally wounded her, she was still prepared to give love a chance.
I enjoyed how all of the characters had shortcomings. Both the primary love interests, Jack and Eric, made mistakes that hurt Chris. I was pleased they weren't shown as flawless people, and Chris had to deal with the consequences of what they had done to her before she could contemplate dating them. This struck me as realistic because it is difficult to meet a person without shortcomings, as is frequently depicted in romance stories.
The book's mystery and intrigue piqued my interest. As we received a taste of this mystery in the first book, especially surrounding her first spouse, I was kept on the edge of my seat. All of these riddles were intermingled with the protagonist's romantic relationships, which made for a compelling read. Infidelity and murder were mentioned in the novel, which added to the suspense. The author did an excellent job of blending the mystery and romantic elements to make the novel engaging. This kept me glued to the novel, and I believe other readers will love the book's revelation about a particular character. I'm looking forward to reading the remaining novels in the series because the book was never predictable.
There was nothing in this book that I didn't like. Readers will be lured into the universe created by the author. I was enthralled by the protagonist's romantic adventures. The author did an excellent job of laying the groundwork for the succeeding works.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because the romance and suspense were captivating. There were no errors or typos in this book, which I thought was exceptionally well-edited. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance novels with mature characters. Lovers of mystery and intrigue may also find this book enjoyable.
