In an attempt to escape the ghosts of her past, Maya Leone leaves everything behind and moves to Mandalay. Despite being a trained nurse, Maya takes up a job at The Vineyard Trattoria as a waitress – a restaurant owned by shady and wealthy Steven Lennox. But the job turns out to be more than she bargained for; as a result, she is fired. On her way out of the restaurant, she witnesses a customer having a deadly allergic reaction and performs an emergency tracheotomy on him – saving his life.

Gabriel Lennox, Steven’s level-headed younger brother, witnesses this incident and ultimately offers her a job as his grandmother’s (Emilia) caregiver. Maya and Emilia develop an instant bond while Gabriel becomes fascinated with Maya. However, a trip back home with Emilia causes the ghosts of Maya’s past to come haunting. Suddenly, Maya’s life and those of her loved ones are in grave danger.

Fate of Leone by Christine T. Pachana is an intriguing and suspense-filled romance novel that contains themes of love, tragedy, trauma, sexual abuse, betrayal, reconciliation, justice, and resilience. This book is divided into thirty titled chapters and an epilogue. The author narrates her story using the first-person point of view; all chapters are narrated from Maya’s perspective, except one told from Gabriel’s point of view. The narrative technique opens the reader up to the feelings and struggles of the protagonist.

The author compellingly tells her story with the use of flashbacks - giving the reader a deeper understanding of the narrative. I like the peculiarities of the characters; I especially found Jerome interesting. I was wholly invested in this book and could hardly put it down. I love how the author develops the story with twists and turns, building up to a fantastic finish. I was pleasantly surprised by who Fiona eventually married and particularly shocked at what happened in the end. Frankly, I wished for more. There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this book.

This book is professionally edited as I only found a few typographical errors. I recommend this book to lovers of romance novels with suspense. Although it contains scenes of sexual abuse, it was not explicitly narrated, and I did not find it disturbing. Fate of Leone by Christine T. Pachana is a captivating, relatable, heart-warming, easy-to-read novel written with simple grammatical expressions. Therefore, I hold no reservation in rating it 4 out of 4 stars.

Indeed, she is a strong and resilient character. You would have to read the book to know if she found happiness (I wouldn’t want to give you a spoiler😀). Thank you for stopping by.
