The story begins with Rogue visiting Stein Industries in preparation of an assassination contract about to be given to him by The Family. It was here that he meets Lisette Renaud, the secretary of the CEO of Stein Industries, for the first time. However it wasn’t the first time he had seen her face. It was the exact copy of the face of a woman he had once loved and lost almost two centuries ago; Anamaria Serrano. She had been murdered as part of a contract, by a member of The Family. Till this date, her face plagued his nightmares.
He immediately asks Lissie out on a date in order to learn about this seemingly impossible coincidence, but by the end of the evening, starts liking her for herself. The couple then spends most of the weekend together, happily in love. But, Mattia hides the truth about his real life from Lissie. However, like all lies, the truth inevitably comes out and shatters Lissie’s heart. Will she be able to deal with someone who kills other people for a living? Will she be able to be with someone centuries older than her?
I loved the idea of a Family of immortals who kill for a living. It was refreshing to see that they weren't immune from death. They just cannot die of natural causes. However fire or bullets can still injure and kill the members of The Family.
The back story of Mattia and Anamaria was one of the best parts of the book for me. In fact, I liked her more than Lissie. She was bold and forthcoming; unafraid to speak her mind. Lissie, on the other hand, though was supposed to be independent, came off as a bit clingy at times. I really wished that we could have seen a bit more of Anamaria in the story.
I also liked love between Mattia and his brothers. I liked the banter between the brothers. I liked that they and their dad looked out for and supported Mattia unconditionally.
Another good thing in the book was Nichols’s description of various places. She made them seem more real in my mind, as if I was the one opening the windows to the magnificent view of the Alps rather than Lissie.
But despite everything I loved about this book, I did not like Lissie going on and on about how perfect Mathew looked; nor did I like that she was more upset over him lying to her than him being a killer. I just could not understand how that could be possible.
So I rate this book a 2 out of 4 stars and recommend it to anyone looking for a light romance.
Also, the preview of the next book was too intriguing so I’m really looking forward for the next book in the series.
