Sex novel pretending to be historical romance. Occasionally the author nods to Jane Austen through social modes, "Would it be rude if...took a turn about the room?" (á la Elizabeth Bennet and Caroline Bingley in Pride and Prejudice) but more frequently Georgette Heyer jerks and twitches but never comes to life all through the book in references and phrases —"She was a Cit", "...their elegant and well-sprung coach", "...latest stare of fashion" — and characters:
(1)Charming, disreputable but gentlemanly (& nobly born) highwayman.
(2)Gorgeous, put-upon "gently born" paid drudge.

Georgette Heyer never comes to life and Julia Quinn is forgettable.
