Hell's bells, we have a certified, countrified, southern-fried winner with Curse Me Not!

Curse Me Not is a paranormal romance, written by Elizabeth Fisher and published by Champagne Books. This author has expanded my definition of paranormal with this “bodywasher” book, full of mystery, adventure, and countrified southern expressions. Just when you are sure you have pin-pointed the outcome, it changes. I was entertained from beginning to end.

Elizabeth Fisher has created a whole new take on paranormal. I'm a big fan of paranormal romance and I've yet to come across a book quite like this one. It was captivating and very well plotted. I was expecting witches, wolves, vampires, or the like. And I got a charming aura cleaner from a backwoods town in Tennessee. This is truly a unique take, as far as I've come across, on the genre.

The main character is Elzetta Swan, an aura cleanser who removes curses, and is a licensed bodywasher. She lives in Knoxville, where she gets a late night call to clean a curse that should have been minor, but is the beginning of a troublesome future with an elusive invoker. To help find and contain the threat of the addicted invoker, Elzetta enlists the help of the Police Captain, Cal McGrath. Easy on the eyes, Mr. McGrath is leery of Elzetta Swan and her profession. She has to win him over to her paranormal talent in order to rid the town of this dangerous threat.

I liked the back-story of the minor characters. They were well developed and I really hope Elizabeth Fisher plans to make a series out of this. I'd definitely be interested in reading more. I'd like to know more about Vittorie and Charlie. Maybe in a novella (to explain Vittorie's draw to Charlie)? A full length novel would also be wonderful. Maybe they would find themselves seeking Elzetta's talents. I could go on plotting, but I think that's best left up to Elizabeth Fisher, the author.

The fact that I'm even imagining and thinking about future books is telling about how much I enjoyed this one. I also really enjoyed the corky pretext at the beginning of each chapter. They are funny and amusing one-liners, adding an extra layer of comedy.

I did find some errors with the grammar, but they were few and far between. Maybe three or four in the entire book, and hardly worth mentioning. If I had to nitpick, I'd say that I'd have liked for that first kiss to have held out a bit longer between Cal McGrath and Elzetta Swan. It's more my opinion than anything, but I was very engaged in the back-and-forth (the angst) between them and the early kiss spoiled it just a touch.

My rating is 4 out of 4 stars. Even if I were to deduct for the minor errors, it wouldn't be nearly enough to downgrade my rating. Anyone who is over 30 (or at least over 18) interested in paranormal, romance, mystery, or just a well rounded adult read, I'd recommend checking this book out for yourself.

It's romantic and tasteful. I especially enjoyed the little twists that I didn't see coming.

Thanks for reading and commenting on my review.
