My Review of The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars is a romance novel, following the love that Hazel and Augustus share together. They met in a support group for kids with cancer, and it was love at first sight right away. They hang out in Augustus' home to watch a movie together, and end up inseparable throughout the book.
The book weaves humor, raw emotion, and philosophical discussions into this book, and I think John Green nailed it. Not many authors can incorporate several different kinds of emotions into one story, but Green did a great job with this book. Some people would disagree saying he tried to offer too much at once, but I think it was very well written. How does one make a cancer book funny? You'll have to read The Fault in Our Stars to find out!
I have never read a book about a character with cancer before, and I was not sure what I was getting into with this book. Would it be really sad? Would I cry? Would I be unable to finish it? But luckily, I was able to finish it, and even though I felt sad during the sad scenes, I didn't feel so awful that I had to put the book down. In fact, I couldn't put this book down if I tried!!
Hazel and Augustus (aka Gus) go on a trip together, and Hazel introduces him to her favorite author, Peter van Houten. Gus reads the book that Hazel loves, An Imperial Affliction, which is about a little girl who died of cancer. This book becomes a major cornerstone of the love between Hazel and Gus, and an important part of the storyline.
Teenagers are not usually as philosophical as these two, or as wise. But it proves that disease makes kids grow up fast, and become wise beyond their years. I think some people thought it odd that Hazel and Gus were so wise, while their friend Isaac was more immature and worldly. But if you think about it, the reason these two star-crossed lovers were so grown up is because getting sick changes a person, and makes them stronger than they normally would have to be.
The Fault in Our Stars is a well-crafted young adult romance book that anyone would enjoy reading. It has become a blockbuster movie and has sold millions of copies. John Green proves once again that he can write fiction, and make it seem real.
Fall in love with the characters in this best-selling novel, and find out why I'm giving Green and the book 5 stars.

It is definitely a quick read; I enjoyed it thoroughly. I think everyone should read it, tbhspalisoul wrote:This is a great book! I read it over the summer. I actually picked it up as a travel book, but I made the mistake of starting it a couple days before our trip, and finished it before we even landed at our destination. It was a very quick read, and had a good balance of humor to balance out the sad stuff.
