In the arms of danger

I was pleasantly surprised by the ending of this short novel and would certainly recommend reading it. The beginning starts out with a female photographer that accidentally photographs a brutal murder making her the next intended victim. She ends up stranded in a small Montana town rescued by the native American sheriff. Because the killer resembles him in her sketchy memory she is not sure who to trust or how much to reveal.
They both are physically attracted to each other and both make half hearted attempts to deny that fact. Racist comments and the fear of attraction is a problem for both along with the serial killer. The sheriff does not know whether or not to believe her half truths and finds himself locked mostly naked in his own prison cell as she tries to escape during a great storm and flood.
Naturally he tries with family and staff to rescue her from the storms, killer and wild animals after she steals his police jeep. He manages to rescue her from drowning just in the nick of time. While the storms continue the killer locates them and in addition they both have been trying to deny the physical attraction as well as fighting wild animals.
They finally give into their lust and soon as they try to escape the flooding he is shot. With the help from supplies packed by his brother she manages to save him in a cave she happened to find. Despite the smell they have to stay until he recovers. After a bear attack and his brother finds them they realize that they are in the same cave as the serial killer when they make a horrible discovery. Fortunately his brother and the FBI are able to save him by taking them to his elderly Indian grandparents. For years they have refused to speak to their white daughter-in-law who left the family.
They are suddenly finally able to let go of their discrimination and immediately decide to let her into the family. They also make known that the few days of sex have left her pregnant. Happily all are enthusiastic about the marriage and insist that the few day old fetus is a boy. The serial killer is caught. The couple has learned to trust each other by the end. The sheriff ends up giving his bride the deed to his prized horse ranch.
I enjoyed the novel and hope others will. The sex scenes distracted from the plot by being over used when it was a good novel already.
