Hannah Whittier, a quaker, who has yet to attract a suitor; decides to make a list of qualities she expects to find in the man she will one day marry. While sailing south to visit her older brother and hopefully attract a suitor, Hannah's ship is attacked by a french Man-of-War ship. She is the only survivor, and is rescued by the handsome English Captain Spark. Sailing further from her homeland and all that is familiar, Hannah bravely accepts her fate while keeping the Captain's advances at bay (almost). As they sail closer to England, and further into war infested waters; Hannah wonders if she will ever return to her former life in America. The Captain proves his depth of love as he seeks to protect her and safely take her with him to England. Hannah doesn't know whether to embrace this new and romantic journey with Captain Spark while cutting her ties to America and her faith; or should she hold onto the hope of returning to her homeland leaving behind the man who has captured her heart. This book is set during the 1800s during the Napoleonic Wars.

I heartily enjoyed this book and the chemistry between the hero and heroine, despite their differences. There were a few twists in the plot that made it impossible to put down until the very end.
