Picking Up the Pieces by E.L Green is a Romance unlike any other. This is not your typical boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy marries girl and they live happily ever after. No, this book is far from that and so much better. This is a story that depicts real life and the sorrows, struggles, and not always happy times that go with it.
This is the story of Ellie and Kyle two everyday people leading somewhat everyday life when tragedy puts them in the path of each other. These two people, each struggling with their own inner demons, must learn to live life all over again. They must learn the value of not only each other, but of themselves as well. They must learn that life dose go on even if it seems like it shouldn’t. That family is not always flesh and blood and that they don’t always have your best interest at heart. This is a story of love after loss.
The author of this book hits so close to home on so many points that you would swear that it is your life and your family that she is talking about. She shows you how life is not always flower and hearts and sunshine. She shows you the darker side of life and how tragedy and heart ache can’t always heal in the blink of an eye.
The author brings to life how sometimes you have to hit rock bottom in order to heal and that even with someone by your side it is not always enough. She shows how people don’t always react the same to the same situation and that loss is not always in the physical sense.
The author shows you a side of life that most of us have not always seen. She puts so much heart and soul into this story that you become part of the story itself. I found myself laughing, getting angry and crying right along with the characters and my heart broke many times while reading this story.
I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. This is truly an amazing book. This is a book for anyone who has loved, lost and learned to love again. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels that they are lost with nowhere to turn. This is a book that shows you that although you are left behind, you are truly not forgotten. I am definitely going to be reading more from this author.
