Peri Reed Chronicles by Kim Harrison

It was a sad day when I finished the last book in The Hollows series, and I've been adrift jonesing for a Kim Harrison fix, her writing is Just That Good, and I love urban fantasies (especially with some romance). A few days ago I saw her blog post The Commons, a mini-short where the old Hollows crew meets the new Peri Reed crew and a blurb about "Sideswiped", which is an intro into The Peri Reed Chronicles.
So, of course I snagged it. Wonderful short (#0.5 for those who number their series). I usually don't care for short stories, but this was fabulous. A nice, healthy start into the world building for this series, and good depth on the characters introduced. Surprise ending that I wasn't expecting. This series is more on sci-fi than magic, but then...is there much of a difference between them, anyway? Very much looking forward to book 1, The Drafter, next week.
