Discovering Jaymee by Leigh Bise is a pretty steamy romance for the 18-25 age range. It’s a short novel revolving around a missed opportunity for passionate love. It’s a great read on a lazy afternoon spent by the pool or on the beach. Though the story line is simple and easy to follow, Leigh Bise delivers the red-hot passion you’re looking for in a romance novel. Though I was left wanting more, I was also satisfied with the fact that it was not a book that droned on and on with the same old “she arched her back and moaned” repetition that one tends to see in the romance category. It was first and foremost, a story, and when the story ran its course, it ended.

Discovering Jaymee begins in present time with Jaymee, minding her own business, in her usual booth, at her favorite bar after work. This Friday is no different than the last, or any other, until the new band begins to play. As soon as Jaymee hears the first stanza she recognizes his voice and is thrown back to 3 years earlier.

Senior year Jaymee and her best friend take a weekend trip to a lodge in the mountains where Jaymee meets Jake straightaway. There is an immediate and burning attraction between the two, only, Jaymee has a boyfriend back home and tries her hardest to deny the feelings Jake evokes inside her. After Jaymee’s sudden exit from the lodge, she leaves Jake without even exchanging last names, and they are both left wanting what could have been.

Discovering Jaymee is told from both the perspectives of Jaymee and Jake, which I really enjoyed. What I liked most about this book, was that even though it was short, and the writing was a bit stiff at times, it really captured the heat and chemistry two people can share. It wasn’t generic, it was very genuine and I was thrilled to live vicariously through each character. I think the dialogue could have been more creative and have better flow, but the writing of the feelings and physical touch was great. You could really feel the electricity, which when I’m reading a romance, that’s what I crave. I want to feel what I have not felt; the hot connection of pure passion.

As a whole I would give this book a 3 out of 4 stars. It was two hours well spent. If you’re looking for quick but so satisfying sexy love story with excellent drama, this is for you. Though I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone with refined or complex literary preferences. I might stick this on the guilty pleasure shelf. It may be short and sweet, but it’ll still heat you up, and leave you with a smile.

Nice review! I particularly enjoyed reading your opinions as I reviewed the author's first book, Two Days Different. The first book told the story of how Jaymee and Jake met and fell in love. I found it interesting that the second book seems to have almost the same plot. Is there more to this installment after the flashback to 3 years earlier?

First of all, thank you so much for your review. I appreciate getting an honest critique of my work. This is my debut novel. I originally published it as "Two Days Different" (Jaymee's POV) with an accompanying novella, "One Day Love" (Jake's POV). I decided to combine the two into one to further enrich the storyline.

I was extremely proud to hear that you felt the emotional connection with the characters. Getting emotion across while writing is sometimes very difficult. I was disappointed, but not surprised that the dialogue was somewhat lacking. I do well with narrative writing but dialogue has always been difficult for me. The purpose of requesting a review, for me, is to see where I excel and what I need to work on. I am working on Annette's story at this time and I am putting extra effort into trying to create better dialogue.

This is basically the same story that you previously reviewed in "Two Days Different". As mentioned above, I added Jake's POV. There were minor changes made to enable his voice to be integrated into Jaymee's but the storyline is the same. I will be sure to let you know when I have finished "Loving Annette", the next installment.

Thanks for the clarifying opposition and update. I looked forward to reading your next book. I remember liking Annette's character a lot, so I'm sure it will be a page turner.

That's great that you added Jake's POV to the original story. He was my favorite character in the original book - so genuine and likeable!

Leigh, I'm so glad to read your response to my review. I think for your first go 'round, you did great! I look forward to reading your next story about Annette! I bet it will be so fun and just as steamy!
Your writing on an emotional level was really impressive in Discovering Jaymee, I bring it up again because I want you to know that I was really moved. Just get that dialogue figured out and you are golden sister! Please post when you have "Loving Annette" finished, I can't wait to see what you do next!

Oops, I just looked at my comment and realized there was a weird word override from either my phone or tablet (don't remember what I used! It shoud be the clarifying information, not the clarifying opposition!

I agree with Amazondanni....plesae post when you have "Loving Annette" finished since I liked the character so much from the first book.
