Chasing Shadows by Maren McCaffrey fall under the paranormal or supernatural genre. If you are into werewolves, vampires, magic and Greek gods, this book is for you!

This book follows the journey of two sisters who were separated when they were young. They lead totally different lives and the book is mainly narrated from Mistral’s point of view (one of the sisters).

The author has a way of really pulling you into this paranormal fictious world that has been created and you can’t help but care about the characters. The up’s and down’s that Mistral goes through in her life is very easy to relate to as many of us go through the same emotional roller coaster in our own lives to varying degrees.

Now this is just book 1 and although I had that in mind when I was reading this book, when I got to the end and the story was left incomplete, I was shocked and disappointed that it didn’t have a proper conclusion… until of course I remembered that there is a Book 2 which I will be picking up and reading shortly!

Now within the paranormal genre, there is no specific category like “vampires” or “werewolves” that I can place this under as this book has a little bit of everything. This is a good and bad thing. Readers who are looking for just the magic angle or the werewolf angle are not going to get one. This book is more about a young woman’s journey through life where she navigates through all the various paranormal activities and beings that are there and so it just glosses over the various “rules” and code of conduct of the various paranormal creatures mentioned in the book.

The only negative thing I can say about this book is at times I felt that there were too many themes to the book, which expanded enough, can be a book on its own. I almost felt as if the author just had too many ideas and wanted to cram everything down in one book. Having said that, since all the ideas were good, and have great amounts of detail to cover the concept. I don’t think it took too much away from the main story.

I would recommend this book as a good read to anyone who is into the paranormal genre. I rate this 3 out of 4 stars! The only advice I have for the author that would take this to 4 out of 4 stars is to be a little more focused on one concept rather than multiple story lines.

Sure. There's the Sky Ghosts series by Alexandra Engellmann. There's also Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy.

Thank you Madhu for the lovely review. Book two is forthcoming this year, hopefully before summer. Sorry I'm so late getting back to you I was out of country and lost track of some of my reviews and book clubs. I promise all is soon to be made much more clear in book two. But be prepared for some heartache and all out sexiness paranormal style! Please feel free to reach out and chat anytime.

Gratefully,
Maren Meriel McCaffrey
