I breathed a contented sigh when I set this book down after a day of reading - something I don't do often. The Mistress of Tall Acre is a historical romance set in the years just following America's Revolutionary War, but it's so refreshingly unlike other books of its kind.

Where other romances are sex scenes strung together by a flimsy story line, this book is instead a beautiful and complete story with romance - and real, human emotion - threaded through. For those who are specifically looking for "office appropriate" books to read on a lunch break, rest assured that there isn't a raunchy description to be found. Frantz instead chooses to show that a beautiful love story can indeed be told even with the bedroom door firmly closed - and I love her for that.

The story line is complete and believable, the characters whole and realistic, and Laura Frantz's writing style is so smooth that the pages just fly by. She doesn't clutter up the story with over-complicated words or descriptions, but gives just the right amount of detail to capture and transport you.

Overall, a great read. It was a refreshing way to spend an afternoon, and this author has firmly planted herself on my favorites list.
