“Timing had a lot to do with everything in life. Sometimes regardless of what the heart desired, love continued to run away and escape…”- an excerpt from Tattooed Hearts.
Tattooed Hearts is the third installment of the Martha's Way romance series written by Mika Jolie.
Claire Peters is an attractive 28-year-old who resides in Los Angeles as an actress and singer. Despite all of the fame and fortune, Claire still feels empty. In an attempt to fill the emptiness that has taken over she returns to the Vineyard, Massachusetts in hopes of putting her heart at ease once and for all. However, to do that, she must face Forrest Deveraux and the emotions she ran away from ten years ago.
Forrest Deveraux, a 31-year-old doctor who resides on his family’s farm on the Vineyard is doing all he can to forget about the night he lost everything. He had gone and followed his heart and in the end she had only walked away with no explanation. His advice to himself, “How to save your heart - Don’t get affected.” Just as he begins to feel he has shut Claire out of his mind for good she reappears at his front door and everything he has worked hard to forget comes crashing in like the waves from the ocean.
This story follows the emotional turmoils of both Claire and Forrest in a third-person narrative as they try to rekindle or extinguish a love that they shared in years prior. With both characters perspectives on the issue, the reader is able to really indulge in the full story rather than make assumptions about what may or may not happen in the following chapters. Readers are able to see the inner struggles each character deals with allowing a sense of personal connection with the characters themselves as well as the novel as a whole.
This novel was extremely well written and had I seen it sitting on a bookshelf in a store, I would have picked it up and bought it for myself. This story has a good flow to it, giving it that natural relationship feel to it, making it relatable and easy to read. With a few twists along the way readers are able to stay engaged and really connect emotionally with the characters. I found myself urging the characters for more in some parts while wiping tears away at pure heartaches.
It has been a long time since I have connected with a book on such an emotional level and for that I tip my hat off to the author. I also really enjoyed that each chapter started off with a quote from each of the characters or song lyrics that related tot he following chapter. For these reasons this book easily earned a 4 out of 4 stars from me.
I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading Nicholas Sparks type novels. It’s a heartfelt read that really pulls at the heart strings. In my opinion, this novel is best suited for the hopeless romantics.
