[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Jewel-less Crown" by BS Murthy.]

"The Jewel-less Crown" by BS Murphy is a romance-suspense book about the lives of Gautam, a powerful man who wants to play a role in Indian politics; Sneha, Gautam's unfaithful wife; and their son Suresh. The story begins with Suresh's hugest crime: raping a girl of his age due to his hidden obsession with his own mother. Suresh eventually meets Vidya and redeems himself from his dark path. The story line of the novel would interest any reader but the book has some critical points.

The book highlights themes of family, woman’s equality, money, and redemption.
The novel brings out action mostly through dialogue rather than actual movements of characters. The characters whether male or female have generally the same tone and speak rather long speeches unrealistic to real life. Each point of view and realizations made by characters are also usually made through dialect. Thus the book is quite reliant on each character's words.

There are some good points in the novel as well. The insights on life lessons made by the characters are indeed beautiful. Readers may also like the descriptions of the life and scenery of modern day India. They would feel like they were in the lovely land themselves through the writer's descriptions.

B.S Murphy shows to his readers his love of India despite the corruption and several crimes that occur there. He shows through Suresh that criminals can be forgiven and changed. His writing of the Gautam life (as if they were real characters) makes readers believe the same.

The novel may be a cause for readers to ponder the justice of the court system in a democratic governance. This is because the court were implied to be easily persuaded to bend to falsehoods because of corruption. It also makes readers want to question if jail is the real solution to the rising percentages of crime possibility.

“Jewel-less Crown” made me wonder about life in India. It was strange how it made me realize more about the corruption in my country. This enlightenment is also delightful and it makes the book applicable universally.
The book is recommendable to readers who love imagery and long exchanges of dialect. The book also deals with psychology and crime which can appeal to suspense fans.

I’d rate book 2 out of 4 stars because the book is a good read despite the slow movement which may intrigue readers to keep hanging on.

Well, I didn't like how most of the plot (like 70%) relied on the character's speech. I believe the author should've dedicated more time to actions of the character.
The way the characters expressed themselves were also the same, I mean they all talked the same way despite their supposed different personalities. The author could've made the dialogue style unique for each character like a police man would talk tough and a adulteress mother would be guilty. But instead they all talked in one tone.
But I like the author's descriptions of India and his characters are testimonies of the people's view on politics along with life itself. So despite the flaws, I gave it a 2.

like i hope the author will improve though if he is cooking up something new...indian contemporary literature is interesting

This part 'descriptions of the life and scenery of modern day India' made the book sound interesting to me. That was a very honest review.

Great review, sounds a bit too dialogue intensive and slow for me but the scene and underlying themes sound interesting. Maybe the author will come out with something new soon.
