Romance is the author’s favorite genre and her book Love built to last is a testimony to that. The book is filled with romance and also love in all its facets: love between lovers old and new, love between best friends, love between parents and their children, love between siblings, and love between pets and their owners.
Love built to last is de first of the Fireflies series. It tells the story of the widow Madelyn Rose ‘Maddie’ Kinkaid, who is after 4 years still talking to her dead husband, Jack. She claims he talks back to her through all the papers and notes Jack left on his desk before he died. She contacts Caleb Walker to renovate her kitchen, just because she believes Jack had led her to find Caleb’s contact number on his desk after asking Jack for advice whom to contact for renovation work. She soon finds herself falling for Caleb, who is a widower and single parent to TJ. However, she is torn by strong feelings of guilt and betrayal. Will she be able to deal with these feelings to build a future with Caleb and his son? But does Caleb also have the patience and the trust that she can close the chapter named Jack?
I have read plenty of romance books and this book does not disappoint in that department. It is a straightforward romantic story and it is also an easy read. I read the book in just two days!
Although the story is mainly told from Maddie’s perspective, we get plenty of insight from Caleb’s perspective, which gives the story a more involved and intimate feel. There is nothing I disliked about the story, instead there are plenty of parts that I liked about the story, which are the most funny and very relatable scenes of the book. The part I liked most of the story is when Caleb’s parents walked into Caleb’s apartment with his son in tow the morning after he and Maddie made love for the first time. The way how Caleb’s father and son responded to the situation is very much hilarious.
I give the book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars, because the book is a romance book through and through without becoming cliché or repetitive. It tugged at my heart and emotions, but it also gave me some good laughs throughout the story. Romance readers will simply love this book, and also the humorous romance readers.
In the book there is an excerpt of the next story in the Fireflies series. It made me very curious on how this story will end. And I can’t wait to get my next fix of heart tugging, feel good and funny romance!
