Have you ever fallen into relationships than realized what a horrible mistake you have mistake you made? I'm sure most people would answer yes to that. In the novel "Marriage Trap", Gemma dated the wrong guy who she thought she loved at first, only to later run away from him and fall right for another guy. Her main goal was to start her life over in New Zealand in the land that her friend, Sarah, had given her. Throughout the novel, "The Marriage Trap" by Diana Foster, Gemma starts to learn the difference between the good and the bad types of control.
When Gemma first got into a relationship with Paul, she never expected him to be so controlling and abusive. He would tell her what to wear, who she could and couldn't talk too, where she's allowed to go, and what she's allowed to do. Everything in the relationship was controlled by him. When they first got together he was a very sweet guy. Her friend Sarah had helped her escape the relationship, by giving her a house in New Zealand. Only to later have the plan sabotaged by Paul when his men came into Sarah's office and listened to all the phone calls to figure out where Gemma had left.
Gemma drove all the way from London to New Zealand, only to be saved by Callum when a storm had started. He brought her to a little shack for the night in his car. Callum had that night got Gemma pregnant by not using protection, like she had insisted. Thinking that she was in a safe part of her cycle.
After the storm was clear, Gemma made Collum drive her to the house that Sarah had given her. She found out later that she became pregnant. 5 months into her pregnancy, Collum came in to check up on her to make sure she was okay. He than realized that she was pregnant and insisted they get married. Off course Gemma wasn't okay with this at first but than agreed since she figured maybe the baby did need a dad. They decided to just marry for the baby not for love. Gemma wanted her space and Collum wanted to care for her and control. She also lied to him that the land was ingherited to her by her parents when in reality it was given to her by a friend. That's another reason why he wanted to marry her. He would finally have all the land.
Collum and Gemma do realize at the end that they both truley love each other. That at first they had made a mistake and were both very stubborn. Collum's control was because he loved her and cared for her. While Paul's control was because he just wanted everybody to like him and he was just a cruel person who didn't care about anyone else but himself. If you would like to know about what else happened in the book I would strongly recommend it. I really like the book, it was a little but cute at the same time.
