Hello Everyone,
Devil You Know By Max Henry and Lauren McKellar is the first book in The Butcher Boys Series. The book is about a young woman in her mid to late twenties, Jane, who is being abused by her Husband. Jane married her husband young and in the beginning of the marriage he showed her nothing but love and affection until about a year into the marriage. That was when he became abusive, controlling, would lie to her and also began to cheat on her. After suffering from her husbands abuse for so long she dreaded what the repercussions would be if she ever disobeyed any of his commands or wants. Her family no longer spoke to her, she had no friends, her coworkers never interfered and no one in the neighborhood bothered to care enough in order to help Jane escape the hell that she was going through.
Malice left home at an early age. trying to leave his dark past. Malice did what he had to in order to survive, even though that meant entering a world that he would never be able to leave, alive. Malice is a professional hitman. Due to his dark past, self-loathing, self-hate and his refusal to open up to anyone, Malice chooses to live on his own and to not fall in love. However, one night Malice can no longer stand to hear the constant fighting and abuse that Jane has been going through for every night since he moved into his home. Malice vowed to never get involved, but that night he broke his rule. Malice went next door and tried to help Jane. The only thing that he was able to successfully do was best her husband into an unconscious state and rescue Jane's dog who was about to die in the hands of Jane's husband.
Malice constantly tried to offer Jane a way out but her fear of what would happen held her back from accepting his offer to help her escape her personal hell. It was not until one fateful night that Malice was able to save Jane. Malice kisses Jane and then a whole new issue came to light. Could Jane ever accept Malice as what he is, a murder? Could Malice ever be worthy of love and affection from anyone, including the beauty he has rescued? Could Malice live a happy life?
That fateful night that he rescued Jane's dog, the rescuing of Jane and that one passionate kiss all conspired to lead these two down a dark and twisted road. However, could they ever be together?
While the idea of the book is okay, I can only provide this book with three out of five stars. It just felt as if there was something missing and the end really never showed up. Yes it was an okay book and I do not regret reading it. However, I cannot rate the book any higher that a three out of five stars. The rad issue with the book alo comes from the beginning being so hard to get through. Then there is not rally a full understanding and development of the characters, such as Jane and Malice. I also would have liked to know more about Jane's husband and what could have happened in order to make him change and be how he is. The book is not a memorable one but while reading was okay.
