Alpha Unit Series by Caitlin Tull (spoilers included)

There are three books in the Alpha Unit Series; September Tango, November Foxtrot and February Waltz. I was able to read the entire series in the last two days and after finishing the last book, I wasn’t all that impressed. The entire series was filled with far too much drama and really bad dialect. I completely understand the author was trying to portray the backwoods, uneducated southern small town and was able accomplished it. I just personally don’t care for it. The other big problem I had with the book was the relationship between Tim (the local policeman) and Layla (a seventeen year old). The author makes the relationship about love and makes it sound ok in the book because they are “in love” but it really isn’t and is incredibly illegal.
The first book showed promise and captured my attention. Granted I do easily fall in love with characters and found myself sympathizing with Zoe Parker within the first few chapters. If Zoe didn’t have bad luck she wouldn’t have any luck at all. Her luck seems to change when Calvin (her high school crush) finally notices her, but even with Calvin in her life she is still a magnet for disaster. The second and third book were very similar to the first, full of drama and bad dialect to the point it was unbelievable.
My favorite character in the entire series was Grams. She is a strong willed black lady in the south who takes crap from no one and has a huge heart. She remind me a lot, of some the elderly ladies I grew up around.
