Claimed is a paranormal romance novel written by Cheney Leigh Scott and is the first book in the Skyborne Legacy series. The novel is told in dual third person POV of Violet Templeton, a 26 year old shy and quiet human girl, and Ben McCloud, a 315 year old strong Skyborne Warrior. In the prologue, it is explained that Skyborne Warriors are a race of beings created to protect humans against dark creatures, and they are destined to solve the clues of a prophecy that will help them win the war.

Claimed starts off with Ben and his partner, Keegan Sinclair, searching for their cousin Aiden, who went missing several months ago. While on a stake out, Ben comes across Violet being bullied by peers at a party and rescues her. Before leaving to continue his search, Ben kisses Violet goodbye, not realizing that one kiss would change everything. After parting with Ben, Violet begins having strange symptoms once a month, including a high fever, intense pain, and enhanced sexual arousal. One night while her friend Pen is taking care of her, the girls are kidnapped by supernatural creatures.

Once Ben realizes Violet is his mate and that she has been kidnapped, he and Keegan rush off to save her and bring her to his home at Castle Sky. Both Violet and Ben try everything to deny the attraction and fight the strange symptoms that come from being mated, but eventually passion over takes them. After one night with Ben, Violet learns of her true destiny and the role she will play in the battle against the dark creatures. Together, Violet and Ben must solve the clues to the prophecy that could help them win the war and save those they love.

I rated Claimed 3 out of 4 stars. I really enjoyed the plot and characters of the book, which felt fresh for a paranormal romance novel. The plot is well developed and the supernatural world created by the author is a new twist on themes that can often feel redundant: warriors, vampires, witches, etc. I also appreciated the rich fantasy world that the author creates for the characters to interact with. I will warn readers that this book does end on a cliffhanger, which can only be solved by reading the series.

One of the reasons I did not rate this book 4 stars was because of the grammatical and spelling errors throughout the book that sometimes could be distracting. Another reason it earned 3 stars, was because the dialogue for the McCloud clan was often difficult to understand since it was written with Scottish dialect in mind, such as "Dinna think I dinna know what yer about. Nay, being alone may be easier McCloud, but I willna make yer choice any easier to bear than I have to.” There were several times I had to re-read sentences to make sure I understood what they were saying.

I would recommend Claimed for fans of paranormal and romance books because the author was able to mix the two themes flawlessly. Fans who enjoy having more action in their books will like Claimed because the pace is steady and fast from the first page. I recommend readers begin this novel with high expectations of continuing the series, which I myself plan to do!

Sounds like an interesting book. I'm a paranormal fan and I think I'm going to enjoy it. Too bad, though, about the errors. Good job on the review.

Paranormal Romance is a genre that I tend to avoid because the fantasy gets lost amidst all the romance. But now I'm tempted to give this one a chance. Great review. I immensely enjoyed it
