Mysterious Discovered Accepted by Violet Samuels is a YA paranormal romance.
It is the third book in the Nightfall Series.
Clarissa is a 17 year old werewolf. Her father is the grandson of the Moon Goddess (the werewolves' deity) and her mother is the famous Celina Knight, the only pure-royal descendant left in the werewolf realm. Clarissa has two brothers, Jett and Dylan. The three of them are triplets, although Jett is destined to be the next Alpha of their pack. Dylan is more of the troublemaker, but is also the most sensitive of the three. Clarissa, being the only girl, and having inherited her father's solid white hair (which is extremely rare) is seriously overprotected by her father and brothers. Even so, Clarissa has plans for her life. She wants to travel and see the world. Only sometimes, fate has a different plan. When Clarissa starts her senior year of school, she has no plans of looking for a mate anytime soon. Imagine her surprise when Lionel Lockhart waltzes into class. They are both instantly aware that they are mates, even though they know absolutely nothing about each other. The only problem is that Lionel is a rogue wolf. Lionel also has some pretty serious skeletons in his closet, one of which may end up getting Clarissa killed. Will Clarissa get her happily-ever-after with her mate, or are some matches simply not meant to be? Along the way, Clarissa will have to find the courage to save her family from a mysterious stranger bent on revenge, and decide if having Lionel as a mate is worth defying her family.
Let me start off by saying that I really enjoy YA paranormal romance. I didn't realize that this was the third book in the series, but even so, I was able to follow along fine. There are several “main” characters in this story and at times it felt like too much. The POV switches several times between Clarissa, Celina, and various other characters but it doesn't cover Lionel's POV until close to the end of the book. For me, it made Lionel very distant. I didn't connect with him because I never saw things through his character until the end.
There are also several mistakes in this story. For example, Clarissa is crying in front of her family in the beginning chapters, and then towards the end, she has a melt-down and it is said that “Jett hadn't seen her cry in 9 years”. There are several of those kind of mistakes that caught me by surprise.
Personally, Clarissa struck me as a very weak heroine. She was always crying and running away, which was very annoying. For Lionel's part, it struck me as very odd that he would treat his mate the way that he did (can't say more without spoiling it). Mates are always portrayed as extremely protective and possessive, and Lionel didn't fill that part.
Overall, the story-line was okay. If it were to be slightly re-written, it would be much better. That being said, I can still see where this would definitely appeal to anyone who enjoys YA paranormal romance. For me, it didn't quite cut it. I am rating this a 2 out of 4 stars.
