What happens when you’ve been betrayed by the person you thought had saved you from a nightmare, and the person who was responsible for that nightmare comes back into your life? What happens when everything you’ve believed in comes crashing down? Exposed is the second book in the Ultimate Betrayal Trilogy. If you haven’t read the first book yet, then you most definitely should since Exposed picks up from where Revelations ends.
Ronnie Harper has been through hell with Kincaid and she’s managed to come out of it alive but not unscathed. Unfortunately for her, it seems that the past has come back to haunt in the most frightening way. Worse still, she’s been betrayed by Jeff, the very man she thought was her best friend and her savior. Hurt and vulnerable, Ronnie begins questioning everything and everyone around her, even the man she loves. Thankfully, Erik is tenacious. The harder she pushes him away, the harder he fights to stay with her. Giving up is not an option for our sexy hero.
Shocked and confused by Dan’s attack and subsequent death, the pair flee the scene with more questions than the number of people who have the answers. It doesn’t help when they realize they might be forced to testify against each other and a possible deportation for Erik. What are they going to do? Get married, of course! And where do they go to have a quick wedding? Uh, Vegas! Cue hot sex scenes. You might want to turn on the air-conditioning because the sex is just sizzling.
The chemistry between Erik and Ronnie is as amazing as it was in Revelations. Admittedly, Ronnie did frustrate me at times. She was hot and cold throughout. She’s been through a lot and she’s still going through a nightmare but because of one revelation about Erik, her trust in him wavers especially when Sarah begins planting seeds of doubt in her drunken mind. Erik, on the other hand, has matured since then, which allowed him to deal with Ronnie’s insecurities about everything. He’s taken on a more dominant role in Exposed and we finally discover a side of him that was just completely unexpected.
I was glad that more was revealed about Jeff and Kincaid because after the first book, there were just so many questions about them and their connection as well as their past. I loved Sarah and Hunter, and how they fit in the story so seamlessly. They added another dimension to the story and to Ronnie and Erik. As always, Catrina has done an amazing job on the action scenes, which just sent my pulse racing with excitement.
Just like in Revelations, Exposed kept me on the edge of my seat...on my bed. There were twists and turns everywhere. One moment I think I know how things are going to pan out and the next… BAM! Another twist. More questions are raised once again. What is the truth? Who can be trusted? What will happen to Erik and Ronnie? How will they ever stop Kincaid? What does he plan to do with them?
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. A strong character in the beginning, Ronnie seemed to grow a little weaker in character by doubting Erik and her numerous hot and cold moments grew frustrating after a while. Aside from that, a great job was done. A compelling plot, well-rounded characters, great antagonists, awesome action scenes and scorching sex scenes. For those who dislike cliffhangers, be warned that Exposed ends on a major one. I’m looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sexy romance novel with suspense.
