Topping the Alpha, written by Samantha Cole, is the fourth novel in the Trident Security series. This novel can be classified as an erotica BDSM novel which contains romance, action and a little man on man love.

Jake Donovan is a tall, strong, alpha male who had it rough when he first decided to come “out” during his teenage years. He was a rough and tough athlete who hit for the other team and also chose to participate in the BDSM lifestyle. When his father found out and neglected to understand his point of view, Jake gave up his sport scholarships in exchange for a live as a Navy SEAL. Jake worked with Ian and Devon Sawyer as a SEAL and happened to meet their younger brother, Nick. Nick also served as a SEAL and although he approves of his brother’s BDSM lifestyle choices; he has never tried it out himself. Jake can sense that Nick is a natural submissive, but knows that Nick sees himself as an Alpha. Jake, being an established Dom, offers to teach Nick the lifestyle, but knows he is going to have to help Nick learn how to submit in every way before they can embark on their journey.

This story line was very easy to follow and gave an in-depth look at what gay couple might go through when coming out to their families as well as attempting to live their lives. The author did a great job incorporating both normalcy and challenges into each characters story and even offered some action that didn’t directly relate to the main characters. Both men are Alpha SEALS but the story makes it clear about how their pasts defined them as the men they are in the book.

I couldn’t pick out anything negative in this book. I felt that it was very well written and everything flowed together very smoothly. Every time the book took a turn, there would be directions to keep the reader on pace with the story so you wouldn’t get lost. The scenes are very detailed as well so the reader can create the perfect picture in their mind as they read through the story.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book showcases for the BDSM lifestyle as well as highlighting how different it can be for people with different families and lifestyles to be able to come out to their families if they are LGBT. I feel that this book can be read as a standalone if someone was to come upon this one first but I do recommend the entire series as well.

So glad you liked it! Been waiting on pins and needles for it to get past the editorial approval lol. I thank you for the great review! Before you move onto book 5, backtrack to the novella Not Negotiable which is book 3.5.

You're welcome! I had a gay friend read through some of those scenes for me to see if there was anything he would change and he said, "Nope, you nailed it."

Thank you for your review. I absolutely love this series. I also love the storyline. It is a bit of a change and I was not sure how Nick would react. Jake & Nick truly seem destined to be together. I loved this book. I thought it was seriously hot. If there were one thing I would have changed, I would have made it a bit longer.
