Outside of the Box Everlasting is a romance novel by Jennifer Theriot. It is the third book in the series, although it can be read without reading the other two. The story is written in the first-person present tense from Olivia’s point-of-view. Ash and Olivia have finally found love after hardships in their previous marriages. They have just come back from a romantic vacation when Ash’s son is involved in a terrible accident that lands him in the hospital. His hospitalization brings up a family secret that Ash has fought to keep hidden for years, one that could tear his family apart. Ash and Olivia find out that they have a lot to overcome before they can find their true happiness.
Overall, I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. First off, I want to praise the author for the writing style and consistency found in this book. The editing in the book was on point. There were very few errors throughout the entire book. I also noticed that the author did a great job of keeping the book correctly formatted in the present tense, which is not the easiest of tasks. On top of that, the book was written with superb detail. It was easy to visualize the people, places, and events in the story.
I really enjoyed that the book had multiple problems spaced throughout the plot. There was not just one main problem as seen in most books. The addition of problems brought suspense and kept me on my toes. Just when I thought that the story was about to have a happy ending, a new problem popped up. I did not, however, like the predictability of the solutions to these problems. As soon as a problem had been introduced, I was able to correctly predict how it would be solved. If the solutions had not been so predictable, I would have bumped my rating up to 4 stars.
I also enjoyed that there was a variety of characters. Each character had a unique personality, and they all complimented each other very well. I personally did not like the main character of the story, Olivia. I felt that she was very clingy and unreasonable. Every time something would happen, I put myself in her shoes but still could not understand her reactions. Because her personality was so different than my own it made the story more interesting. I was seeing all of the problems from a different viewpoint.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance novels. If you are looking for a clean romance novel, however, this isn’t the book for you. It has quite a few steamy scenes in it. They aren’t over the top scenes like in an erotic book, but they are still pretty risqué.
Don’t worry about reading this book if you haven’t read the first two books in the series. I did not read the first two, and I had no trouble understanding what was going on. I might even have to go back and read the first two books because I liked this one so much! My only problem with the book was the predictability of its solutions. I would probably have given it a full 4 stars if it weren’t so predictable. I would definitely recommend reading it.
