What is the best way to create immediacy in erotic scenes?

It seems like when sexy or erotic scenes pop up in romance novels, some authors get lost in thier own exposition. What do you really think makes for a good erotic scene? lots of description? A smooth tone? Or maybe some dialogue?

I think it depends on the book. Sometimes less is better. More sensual than out right sexual. Then again in some books it calls a more detailed description. Being an author I've had reviews for the same book where one person said it was too tame and another said it was porn in disguise. Everyone is going to like something different than the next.

I have to agree, it depends on the book, as well as the character. Some characters just need to be about intense looks, and touching, but others you want to what they'd have to say in the heat of the moment.

I have to agree with different books needing different things but equally when your reading an erotica and they start using the exact same descriptives I find it really off putting, more because it feels repetative and that distracts from whats actually going on.
