Synergy by Georgia Payne is a romance novel about 22-year-old Dee hustling to take care of her family. She works as a stripper and sells drugs on the side to make ends meet. Where she comes from nothing is guaranteed and family is everything. Dee’s story is one about the struggle of a single mother living in Detroit, and what happens when her path crosses that of Jason, a famous singer. Jason has lived a nice life, growing up in Memphis with a loving and supportive family. He has worked hard to get to where he is in life and is now lucky enough that he does what he loves and can afford anything he wants.

Dee and Jason come from two different worlds and have a lot to overcome if they plan to be together. Jason has to stay on his toes with Dee because she is unlike anything he’s experienced. As Jason works to break down Dee’s barriers and see the real her, Dee struggles with the fame and paparazzi that comes with knowing Jason. Throughout the story their different views on life clash

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Although I probably would never have chosen this book on my own, I think it was a well written entertaining story. There was good character development throughout the story, and I like all the different personalities that each character brought to the storyline. Unlike in some books, there was never a dragging point in the story. Georgia kept the story moving at a good pace so I never lost interest. I think this is a great quick read it just wasn’t exactly my cup of tea.

I wish Georgia would have expanded more on Dee’s interactions with Jason’s fans and the paparazzi. She only briefly mentions that the media was talking about Dee. I think it would have added to the storyline if there was more development around that. There is a cliff hanger so maybe Georgia develops that part of the story in the next book.

I think anyone who likes reading romance novels, but is looking for strong independent female character showed consider this book. Dee means business and doesn’t take smack from anyone. She knows what she wants and isn’t letting anyone stand in her way. If you like stories that don’t shy away from real life issues then give this a try. Georgia isn’t afraid to write about economic and class disparities. She puts it front and center in this romance.
