Strum Your Heart Out: A Rock Star Romance
By: Crystal Kaswell
Kara Kenderick is a senior in college. He best friend just happens to be Drew Denton, only the hottest guitarist in the world! Drew has his guard up no matter what, is stubborn as all heck, hot as hell and the only person he seems to trust is, his best friend, Kara. When it comes down to it, Drew is beyond protective of Kara. He will not allow anyone to hurt her either emotionally or physically. He will threaten violence on anyone who even shows that they could even be a threat to her. Kara has always loved Drew and cared about him as more than a friend, yet the feelings were not reciprocated on his part.
When the book begins, Kara and Drew are in a club together. While at the bar one of Drew’s groupies comes up to them, basically pushing Kara out of the way, so she could hit on him. Opposed to sitting there and watching her best friend get hit on, Kara goes out to the dance floor to dance away her frustrations. While dancing, a guy keeps putting his hands on her waits. Kara goes to leave the dance floor and the guy who was just grabbing her hips against her will, follows her. He grabs her and is very pushy and rude to her. Out of nowhere Drew comes out of nowhere, like the white knight he is for Kara. After threatening the guy, Drew proves a pint and while pretending to be Kara’s “boyfriend”. He kisses her. This leaves her with a pounding heart and a sense of confusion and possible hope.
Shortly after the club scenario, Drew asks Kara to go apartment shopping, while reluctant she agrees. However, what was unforeseen was Kara’s roommate decided to give her five days to get out. When Drew calls, Kara answers trying to keep her emotions undetected because if Drew knew, he would try to be her white night again. However, she does not do a good job of that and Drew hears how she is upset and tries to ask what’s wrong, she refuses to tell him and then hangs up.
Ultimately, when Drew finds out, he does not give Kara much of a choice. He wants Kara to live with him and she eventually breaks down and agrees. However, the question still remains, can she live with the man she has loved and had feelings for her whole life, or will it ruin her instead?
I rate this book four out of four stars. It ultimately was so enticing that I could not put it down. I fell in love with the characters right away and loved the fact that everyone made fun of Kara and Drew for being best friends. I have that happen all of the time and it was awesome to be able to relate to. The characters were well developed and the book was well written. I hope to come across more books like this.
