Kerry Lonsdale Book Review

Post by Eleahy_07 »

In Kerry Lonsdale's debut novel, "Everything We Keep", we are introduced to Aimee. We find her burying her best friend and man of her dreams on what should have been their wedding day. After the funeral, she approached by a complete stranger who says her fiance, James, is NOT dead. Unconvinced, she decides to move on with her life. However, the stranger keeps turning up in unexpected places and continues to try to persuade Aimee to look further into James' death. It isn't until Aimee is presented with mind-boggling proof, that she decides to follow the bread crumbs her long lost love MIGHT have left behind.
To be perfectly honest, I wasn't impressed with this book. I am not a big fan of novels that are mostly romance sprinkled with some twists and turns; I prefer it to be the other way around. It could be because of this that I can't say I loved the book. The revelations I thought were obvious due to the clues in the flashbacks that Aimee has about her time with James; the ending felt anticlimactic. I also thought some parts of the novel were too cliche and other parts I just rolled my eyes at. If you love watching Dateline Mysteries on TLC, then this book is right up your ally.
I did enjoy Lonsdale's style of writing, though. She does a phenomenal job of describing the turmoil that Aimee felt after her fiance died and the events that followed. She describes her character's body language, reactions, and facial expressions really well. Overall, the plot wasn't that great but she creates memorable characters and, for that, I give this novel a 3 out of 5.

I like when people write honest reviews. It's really helpful when deciding which book to pick up next. I'll probably stay away from this one. Thank you for reviewing it!
