Out of the Box Regifted by Jennifer Theriot is the second book in the Out of the Box Series. It is a typical romance that follows the relationship between Ash and Olivia and the meshing of their friends and family. Unfortunately, it’s not a perfect cakewalk for the two of them. Olivia is still dealing with the heartbreak of her ex-husband’s leaving her for another woman after thirty years of marriage. She has to learn to love and trust Ash and to get past her insecurities. The reader is along for a roller coaster of emotions as they follow Olivia’s story in the first-person present tense.
Everything about this book screamed “cheesy romance,” and I loved it! The dialogue between characters made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. The book was filled with love between all of the different characters. Along the romance end of it, there were some steamy scenes that got pretty detailed, so I wouldn’t suggest this book if you’re looking for a clean romance novel. I really enjoyed that these scenes were nicely spaced throughout the book without taking up the entire storyline. I love that the author didn’t rely only on the romance aspect to make the book entertaining. There’s still good content, a full plot, and great relationships between the secondary characters.
While this book is the second book in the series, it works pretty well as a standalone. I actually read the third book first, then I read this one. While I missed out on the exact history between Ash and Olivia, I feel like the author explained the past enough to understand what is happening. Even though I have never read the first book, I felt like I still got to know the characters. The personality of each character was really translated well, especially Olivia’s. The reader gets an inside look into what Olivia is feeling and thinking because of the point-of-view of the book. ?
I also enjoyed the pacing of this book. The chapters are perfect in length. I would finish one and would tell myself, “I’ll just read one more,” but I never read just one more. I couldn’t make myself put the book down. The author also provided a suspenseful cliffhanger that makes the reader want to read the next book. If I hadn’t already read it, I would definitely be itching to by now. The author makes the reader feel like you need to know what happens next in the story of Ash and Olivia.
While the story itself is great, there were a lot of errors throughout the entire book. Missing punctuation, wrong words, and missing words were some of the most common errors. Unfortunately, these mistakes were so frequent that they were quite distracting and took away from the book as a whole as there were a few places where the errors made the writing kind of confusing.
I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. I really enjoyed it and thought it was pretty close to being perfect. Unfortunately, there were just too many errors to give it four stars. If the errors were gone, I would definitely give this book a perfect score. I recommend this book to anyone who likes romance novels and can overlook the errors.
