Hey,

So what according to you attracts you to book?
The book cover?
The Blurb?
Or someone recommending it to you?

As far as I'm concerned I believe in "don't judge a book by its cover" and read the blurb before finally choosing a book to read.

Honestly, I am terrible at judging books by their covers. If the cover is inviting, then I am more prone to picking up the book and looking to see if it is something that I would be willing to read. Another thing that has started to influence what books that I add to my "to be read" books is TikTok. I am definitely impressionable when it comes to TikTok reviewers and recommendations, especially if they mention a book that I really did enjoy. I really don't get many recommendations from people I know because I do not really have many close friends who read but, I would be more than happy to try out what other people enjoy reading.

The book cover and the title catch my attention at first, but I only buy the book if I find the blurb interesting. And if I really enjoy a book, I'll read more written but the same author.

I look at reviews, like a lot of reviews. I read maybe the first few pages and then I jump to the last page. If the last page leaves me like "well what the hell just happened" or "oh this is juicy" I read the whole thing. I mean it's worked this far for me.

There are several things that attracts me to a book. I look at the title, the blurb, the book cover and the colors used. I am a big fan of the writer using "flashbacks" in their story. I like a book to be recommended.

If I'm to pick a book to read next, I think the blurb (that's the short description on the back) would be the most helpful. It's like a trailer for the book, telling you what kind of story it is and if it sounds interesting then I'd want to get into it. It's the book cover that would attract me to it though, I like eye-catching book covers and the prettier or gorier, the better.

Mostly, I do judge a book by its cover and I end up having too much expectation from a novel, only to be hit by surprise that expectations can meet disappointment. But also, the blurb is helpful for I get to understand what the book is all about before coming into some certain conclusion on either to read or let it go.

I join the camp of people trying not to judge books by their cover and miserably failing. After choosing the genre I'm interested in, I barely register the title while subconsciously focusing on the general impression of the cover - do I recognise myself in it, does it look tasteful ( in my opinion) and eye-catching or does it give an image of a little effort put in? ( Ironically enough, I couldn't care less what people wear and how much effort they put into their appearance.)

After adjusting my expectations accordingly, and skimming through the blurb ( to get a general understanding of the premise and characters, not half of the plot), I look up reviews - most often they are the reason I decide not to read the book. They often mention the issues readers stumbled upon, which allows me to decide if they are dealbreakers for me or not.

Honestly,I tend to base a book on its cover, I prefer books that are illustrated with cartoon like covers unlike covers with real people. I just find it easier to imagine the character which is visually appealing to me instead of having a representation of the character on the book. So, covers are what appeal to me and determine whether i’ll read it or not!

I read a lot of reviews, and pass on a good number of books from those. I also like to browse either the library or at a bookstore and read the back/inside cover. If I like the blurb, it goes on my TBR list. If I'm on the fence, I'll read few pages to get a feel for the author's style. I love a good recommendation from my book group as I usually know who likes the same kinds of books. I do sometimes get sucked in by a good cover though! Lots of my fantasy reads have been because the cover was good!

The first attraction of a book is definitely it's cover and title because no matter how much we say that you should not judge a book by it's cover it is in our instincts to judge a book by it's cover that is what the cover is for anyway.

For me it’s not just one thing, sometimes it is the cover looks really cool. Others it’s that I really like the author, or the synopsis sounds good, or a friend recommends it.
