Review of Faded Blooms of a Past Love
Faded Blooms of a Past Love, by Jennifer Ugur, is a novel set in contemporary society. It’s the story of two lovers. Elijah and Joelene share a bond so strong that it causes their souls to tie. Tragedy strikes, and they lose contact, separating for years. They grieve, holding on to just the memories of each other and the connection they share. Will they move on with new partners in their lives, suppressing the feelings and genuine love that burn in them? Or will they find their way back to each other, against all odds?
It’s very noteworthy, to point out, how the characterization of this book is of a small number, yet the plot is developed around them, resulting in a full body of work. Not all authors can pull that off. Kudos to Jennifer. The description of nature, too, is very beautiful, as she curates her words in a certain way to evoke the exact imaginative picture of what she’s writing about in my mind. This results in a very beautiful imaginative world for me. The message the author passes on, although inherently subjective, leaves the lesson to each reader to decipher based on their own experiences in life and background. Jennifer Ugur’s way of writing evokes strong emotions such as being angry, happy, sad, pissed, and so on. Reading the book, there was a lot of suspense.
However, I found some descriptions of scenes very cheesy. Also, I didn’t fancy how predictable the male protagonist's words became over time while reading. I believe in the sequels, a bit more effort could be put into certain characters' development, like Elijah, who felt somewhat underdeveloped in this book.
I give this book a rating of 3 out of 5. I removed a star because I found a lot of errors in the book. After contemplation, I had to remove another star because of the negatives I pointed out. Also, the author employed over-description and repetition, which the characters portrayed consistently, and made it predictable. That is as many stars as I would remove. This book deserves the three stars left because of the positives I have already discussed.
I recommend this book to late adolescents.
