Breaking Boundaries is a romance story that shows that love can lift you up and keep you from breaking no matter how much you would like to fall. M.A. Lee wrote this book as a stand-alone that does not end on a cliff-hanger. The love and hurt that is written in this story will make the reader feel the emotions that the characters are feeling.
Melanie is going through the motions of life after a tragic accident that happened two years ago. She feels like she cannot trust or love again. One night after going out with her friend Lauren, Melanie meets Cole. Cole shows her what she has been missing, but Melanie, because of past fears, cannot let it go any farther than friendship. This story follows Melanie and Cole’s journey through the ups and downs. Can Melanie learn to trust and love again or could she possibly lose the one person that has made her want to live again?
The storyline of this book flows nicely. The author writes flashbacks throughout the book about the terrifying accident that Melanie went through. At first, I wasn’t sure about how this was written, but after finishing the book, I realized that I like how it was written because you get a reminder of what Melanie had to endure and why she is the way she is. Melanie is written as a shell of a girl at the beginning of this book, but as the story goes on you get to read about her growing and coming out better than what she was before the accident. The relationship that Melanie and Cole share is electric and the author makes you feel the magnetism between the two, but both individuals have issues that they are working on to try to make their lives better.
I had one major issue with the book. While reading, I noticed that paragraphs would be cut off in the middle of a word or a sentence would stop in the middle. Also, there was one point that I think one paragraph was entirely missing. These issues could have been the format I received the book. I did get a little frustrated with this because I had to guess at what the author was thinking when she was writing a scene.
I rate Breaking Boundaries a 3 out of 4 stars. If the formatting was correct and there would not be sentences or words missing from the book I would have rated it 4 stars. I would recommend this book for adult readers that enjoy a good romance that starts as a budding friendship. There are some sex scenes in this book, so that is why I would not recommend anyone under 18 reading.
