Review of Millie Lands a Movie Deal
This book had really great potential, but sadly the execution was poor. It desperately needs editing, which is part of why I deducted so many stars. The author’s concept and storyline are interesting, the characters are endearing, and I wanted so badly to enjoy reading it.
I wish we had gotten to see more character development prior to jumping into the romance and relationship. I don’t feel like I was really able to buy into Declan as a love interest and root for him to end up with Millie because we were not shown enough of the good in him in advance. The good-to-bad ratio seemed too unbalanced. I generally love a good redemption arc, but the pacing of his turnaround just didn’t sit right for me. I do really appreciate Millie as a character though. She was easy to love and seemed to react and think like a normal person would, which is always fun to read.
I also felt that there were loose ends that weren’t tied up; the Lindsey Faulkner storyline didn’t seem to progress as it should have. Maybe this is something expanded upon in the next book? This aspect of the plot didn’t feel properly explored.
A major issue for me was that the plot twist at the very end of the book felt random and forced. I appreciated being surprised, because I definitely did not anticipate the turn it took. But it didn’t seem cohesive and felt too out of sync with the rest of the book. It was too unbelievable.
Overall it read like an early draft - if the author had spent time editing, making transitions more seamless, and improving character development I think it would have been more successful. This is an easy read, but not worth investing the time in my opinion. I rate this book two out of five stars.
