The Association: Footlight Theater, Book 1 “Everett” is the first in a romance/mystery series written by Judy Kentrus. I really found it hard to put this book down once I got to the second page. The story starts when Everett decides to move back to his home and runs into the love he has never forgotten. He left, taking his secret with him. Laura is keeping her own secret. The same secret that kept her from following her dreams and may keep her and Everett apart in the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and kept racking my brains trying to figure out who could have been the one making the threats against The Association, as Everett and his friends were known as. They were not idle threats and people were getting hurt. There were parts that I felt that were just a bit over the top, like the meeting they held in order to bring Laura in on the secret, but over all, I did not feel like it took away from the story.
The characters were a lively bunch that reminds the readers that true friendships never go away no matter how far we may travel. They remained friends throughout the years and are now trying to figure out their relationships with their counterparts. They will remind you of adolescents at their first dance when you read about the birthday party. The descriptions of the costumes were spot on and the author made it easy to picture the characters in their outfits.
I felt like the author did a great job in maintaining the right amount of mystery and romance to keep the reader interested in the book. I was not ready for this book to end and was immediately looking to see if the next installment was up for sale, it is. I hope that all of the books in this series are as wonderful as this book. I also like the way the story was told from different points of view. It is refreshing to get a glimpse of what the other characters are thinking.
I give this book 4 out of 4 stars because I found this book so hard to put down. I like the way the author had you trying to figure out who the bad guy is and sitting at the edge of you seat wondering what was goin gto happen next. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in this genre. I do not think they would be disappointed.
