[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Forbidden Mafia Affair" by Angela Storm.]
Isabella (Bella) Moore wants to be a well-known and respected lawyer like her father, Dante Moore, who has never lost a case. However, obtaining her goals is proving difficult, as her father and his partners only give her the easy cases to work. Alexander (Alex) Rossi is the boss of an underground mafia family who needs Dante Moore’s help to defeat his rival, Lennox Maritz, and put him behind bars for the rest of his life. Dante wants nothing to do with anyone connected to the mafia and refuses to represent Alex. Bella attends a charity gala at the Saint Apollo Gallery, where she hopes to network with potential clients to help her reach her goals. After a man holding an automatic gun appears on the stage, Alex helps Bella escape the ensuing chaos and leave the locked-down building through a secret exit. Bella thinks they are now safe until someone starts shooting at them. Why are they being shot at? Why was Alex at the gala? Will Alex defeat Lennox? Will Bella reach her goals? Will Dante change his mind about representing Alex?
Forbidden Mafia Affair by Angela Storm is a romance crime thriller full of suspense and adventure. The magnificent character development provided support for each of the characters. For example, I could easily envision the beautiful Bella, who lacked the confidence most people think all beautiful women have, but her strength and intelligence were prominent throughout the storyline. Then there is Alex, an extremely handsome man whose commands and authority are always obeyed and respected. In contrast, Lennox’s evil personality and brutality make his followers act out of fear. I appreciated Angela Storm’s forethought to make text messages within colored frames to make them look realistic and stand out from the rest of the narrative. Each chapter focuses on a certain character and their point of view, so there is some repetition, which can be distracting, but in this case, the author has skillfully woven it in to make it work.
Although the torture scene was disturbing, Angela Storm did a fantastic job of revealing the victim’s fear and pain and the torturer’s enjoyment of their cruelty. This is just another example of the depth of the character development, so it did not affect my rating of this book. The only thing I disliked about this book was the plethora of errors I encountered, and this was the only flaw I encountered that justified my removing one star and giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. I would have given it a perfect score if it had been professionally edited because of the positive aspects discussed above. I hope to read more of Angela Storm’s books because I enjoyed reading this one so much.
This book is appropriate for mature fans of the romance and crime thriller genres 18 years and older due to the descriptive sexual content, the gory torture scenes, and the non-borderline profanity.
